Mangoes are plentiful at the moment, bananas are always plentiful. We do live in a subtropical region after all!
Much to my delight, Kefir drinks are now available in a local supermarket and a beauty and health department store!
Kefir is full of excellent health benefits, the kind I'm looking for. It not only is delicious, but also nutritious, full of probiotics, and kind to the digestive system.
I was diagnosed with Reflux a long while back but now have IBS issues as well.
The following health benefits have been scientifically proven -
- A fantastic source of many nutrients
- A more powerful probiotic than yogurt
- Has potent antibacterial properties
- Can improve bone health and lower the risk of osteoporosis
- May be protective against cancer
- Kefir’s probiotics may help with various digestive concerns
- Low in lactose
- May improve allergy and asthma symptoms

I know many of my friends are currently experiencing a cold winter, but come summertime a thick and creamy fruity smoothie will be a delicious way to start the day, or for that matter enjoy at any time of the day.
Use whatever fresh ingredients you have - if you don't have Kefir, ice-cold milk or yogurt works just as well, with the addition of frozen fruit or berries, nuts, seeds, and a protein powder for an extra kick!
Of course, there are veggie juices as well, filled with nutritious and health-giving properties.
It's high summer here, and it's been hot! When I say hot, I mean uncomfortably so.
I find myself always on the lookout for something cool but healthy to drink. Yes, Coca-Cola and other fizzy drinks are very refreshing, but having them all the time is no good, especially for tummy issues!
I had a gorgeous, ripe Mango, some Bananas, and Kefir - a smoothie would be just the thing. Adding protein powder, almonds, and chia seeds would make a nutritious drink.

Ingredients
- 1 large ripe Mango
- 2 Bananas
- Approx 400ml full cream yeast-free Kefir - Vanilla flavour
- 1 Tablespoon Chia seeds
- 1 heaped Tablespoon flaked Almonds
- 1 heaped Tablespoon Protein Powder
Slice mango criss-cross, then slice away from the pit

Slice Bananas, arrange next to Mangoes on a large plate, and freeze for a couple of hours

Place all ingredients into a blender, and pulse on high till smooth.

Time to serve two thick and delicious large tropical Kefir smoothies!
To add extra texture, I topped it with Fennel flowers - yes they're edible, crunchy, and delicious licorice flavour, flaked Almonds for a nutty taste, as well as Chia Seeds.

Bonus feature - Blueberry Kefir Smoothie
I'd made a sweet & simple, but delicious Blueberry Kefir Smoothie last week. Trying to take selfies to show food preparation, is an impossible task. Thought you'd like to see it!

Ingredients
- Approx 200ml Frozen Blueberries
- Approx 400ml full cream yeast-free Kefir - Strawberry flavour
- Handful mixed Seeds - pumpkin, flax, and Sunflower seeds
- Handful of fresh Cherries as garnish
Place into blender and pulse on high till smooth

Pour into glasses, top with fresh Cherries, and enjoy!
Magical Colour transformation!
