Switching Worlds | At The Port

Back a couple of months ago I was reconning out places to go and things to do. While a lot of that was done online. There is just something about going out to an area and checking things out in person. I ended up finding a cool place to use as a hub for a couple of days while I went out and did that.

One of those places was around the area of Cape Canaveral. I was kind of shocked you had to cross two bridges to even get there. I’d hate to be here during a massive storm you are more or less just out on a barrier island. The place is quite amazing.

I ended up staying at Radisson Resort at the port. This place can get rather busy as it tends to be a spot where people go on massive cruisers to spend the night. I noticed one day there it had a massive amount of people early in the morning and by midafternoon the place was almost a ghost town.

One of the bigger reasons for picking this place to stay was the crazy-looking pool. Now online the photos make the pool look like it’s some massive water park. It is not that big. It is, however, still quite impressive.

This place was also just fun to walk around. They have some Koi ponds and some massive convention buildings appear to be connected as well. This place must make a killing providing parking as they had a pass included with the stay and many people who book curies also parked their cars at this place.

There was also a second waterfall that fed into the hot tube. While they had a bar at the place that served drinks, they were cool if you brought in your stuff but did not bring anything into the actual pool.

I could see the nights here getting rather crazy with the right mix of people showing up in the area to go off on a boat or who have been stuck in a convention all day. Thankfully things did not get too wild while I was there.

I ended up going down and checking out some docks in Cape Canaveral. There are quite a lot of fishing boats in the area. There is just something about that kind of dock smell that seems familiar but is not quite.

Ended up checking out a place called Rusty’s Seafood and Oyster Bar. I could tell this was quite a local place that was going to have good food from just looking at it. It was something many locals were recommending, and it had quite the waiting line to get in.

The cool thing about this place is you either have the option of indoor or outdoor dining. Eating at a seafood place and being outdoors just seemed to be the right way to go. They even had a band playing out back as well.

I was told it was going to be a bit of a wait. I was kind of fine with that as it would give me some time to explore. I wanted to check out some of the local docks and little beach areas anyway. I did not even make it fifty steps before getting texted that the table was ready.

To my shock, they ended up seating me at a large table. I even asked to make sure they had seated me in the correct area. There was a big party before us that was no longer seen anywhere. I don’t know if a mistake was made or not.

With the way inflation has been, I found the prices here to be rather reasonable. I ended up ordering the fish and chips. I was expecting a normal basket with lots of fries on the bottom and a couple of fish over the top.

It appears that is not how they do things at this place! There was fish from the top to the bottom. I swear there was more fish than chips. If I had stayed out longer in this area, I would have gone back a second time just to order this basket again.

The fish itself tasted like it had just been caught a couple of miles away and brought in moments before being battered and fried. It was amazing. Since this place is right on the docks, I would be shocked if that was not the case.

Franky, if you are ever in Cape Canaveral Rusty’s is a great lunch or even dinner spot to go if you don’t mind a line. The line is worth it. They do have other things like shrimp, oysters, grouper, and things like chicken for those not wanting fish.

Final Thoughts

While it would have been cool to catch a space launch from here as well. There ended up not being any during my stay. Naturally, the day after I left there was one. Since I have plans to come back here to watch some space launches this might be a spot, I ended up checking out again.

Funny enough I'd end up returning months later and I'd end up missing out on the space launch that ended up getting pushed back further into the evening. It seems I just don’t have the best luck at catching one this close live in person. It seems I'll have to make another attempt yet again at some point.

While I did not go on any trails while down there. It sure felt like it. I walked over ten miles for my short stay. There were a bunch of other things I was looking into beyond looking for some fun things as well. Those other things did not end up working out. That is just how it is sometimes.
