Alright, from one boring AF activity to the other, let’s go grocery shopping, old school market appraisal, incidentally though you could use, moving of objects to send messages as well, lots of options on that front, interesting knowledge.

Which I call, Project Boring AF, Trucking hilarious

Gets set simple task: Create a simple budget, takes hours, still not complete.

Next minute: Invents 12 other variations of espionage in 5 seconds, on brand.

Yeah basically, you can use shopping lists as encoded messages, and a whole bunch of other stuff, if you really want to, and it cant be hacked.

Well that was insightful

It would appear, Aldi is the cheapest, and easiest to navigate on the whole, however, While Coles took me quite some time to understand the floor plan, it is similar, to Woolworths it would seem, so when I arrived at that location, it was easier to navigate.

Obtained some direct market research by talking with a Customer, who advised, that all catalogues are generally published by a certain app called Shopify, and the customer recommended this for specials evaluation.

I enquired, as to whether there was any great different between washing liquid, and washing capsules, apparently, seemed to think it really depends on how much clothing you are washing.

It stands to reason on the one hand, I then did consider how one would aggregate such data, into an easily interpretable data sheet.

However, I think it would be rather to complicated.

It does seem however, Aldi, retains the lowest prices, however, Coles & Woolworths have more variety, notably, a bakery for fresh bread.

There are of course, minor price differentials and I imagine, the prices go up slightly, and down slightly, based on internal variables, But there still is, as far as I can see merit to shopping around, particularly, if, items are not in stock - and Aldi does not cover all brands, however, for baseline food stuffs, that of a generic nature, their items appear to be the cheapest and through a quick sample size, of appraising what I am setting out for a baseline of foodstuffs, Claim of their prices being unable to be beaten, would appear, to be valid.

And most interesting, seeing how people observe goods and the way they set up the merchandising, Which, always, was one of my areas of interest when studying marketing.

But yes, very insightful, I think the challenge for the consumer is, in a practical sense, is it’s not conducive to time, to visit shop 1, shop 2, shop 3, then formulate a decision as to which product to buy, which I imagine is why people simply end up choosing one brand or the other.

But with observation, of the prices, if you are in a situation where the cost, for a budget, is primary, and are willing to perhaps, compromise on tastes, yes, Aldi, it would appear they are the superior supermarket, on costs savings.
Perhaps not on food quality or tastes, what not, but I am not very much of a foodie, so I don’t feel my opinion would matter to much on that.

I will say this

Back when I did my marketing diploma, I focused on tea, and, Both Woolworths & Coles, stock, Twining’s, I also, appreciated Harrogate’s or some other brand, both for the Aesthetic of the design of the box, which, when I did my advanced marketing diploma, I essentially focused on mostly the visual aspects of product merchandizing for FMCG's.

But reminded me the process of doing market research, engaging with customers for market feedback, as a random sample, and price comparisons.

What I liked about Aldi, as a floorplan, is that when I wanted to look around for items, the layout, was more efficient visually, I did not have to walk up and down isles like a maze, but rather, could scan across the floor, visually, but, I am however bias, as, speaking in gaming terms, I have "map awareness" of that store.

For a true comparison, of what was the most efficient floorplan, I suppose, one would need to take individuals who are brand shoppers of all three, segment them, set equal starting positions, and give them a shopping list, and have them gather the items, at which point, you could return that data, and improve floor plans accordingly.

But yes, as always, lovely to get out of the house, be out among people, observe things, I think it’s very good for mental health,

Even if you’re not buying anything, you can set yourself a little research task, in this case, mine was preparing a budget, which, then, by nature, because I quite enjoy marketing, and research, it became an interesting and fun experience, and yet, I still achieved the goal, of obtaining some pricing data, in a much more fun way, than sitting here staring at my computer screen on my own, which I could have done, on the one hand it would have been more "efficient" however, the cascading positive outcomes considering all other spatial factors, was worth its weight in gold.

It is also to consider, when I was talking with a random sample customer, for a legitimate shopping question I had, they advised I should also, visit the IGA, however, I was reluctant to do so, as it was a different venue, because, then I would have to appraise one series of stores, then go to another, and I imagine this is true, of many consumers.

I think the concept, of an Independent grocer is actually beautiful in many ways, the artistic type in me, something about a store, standing on its own, very reminiscent of old world mercantile, but, for market share competition to IGA, I imagine, it really comes down to location, it would seem logical, from a marketing point of view, for IGA outlets, if they are able to be inside such Westfield style venues, or similar, their revenue would increase substantially.

I imagine the rent issue is the primary issue, however, much in the same way in SEO we go after number one or two or five positions in a particular vertical, if in the least, the IGA could be placed, within proximity to the other major outlets, perhaps on an outside corner, or, within walking distance that had some appeal, for consumers to go to otherwise, such as cafes, restaurants or perhaps otherwise.

But I think from a consumer point of view, demographic wise and psychographic wise, they are most likely categorized very broadly, into price shoppers, and product shoppers, I could be wrong on that, table set of data, quite small, sample size of one outing.

And in terms of product choices, those that do or don’t like cooking, all my selections, revolve around, how little cooking do I have to do, anything, at all, beyond fast, and microwave, and like, a twostep process, is far more messing about than I care for, I cant begin to express to you, how much, I just dislike cooking, which I might point out, is why your hospitality people are the most important on earth.

Why would you ever be rude to a hospitality person? Food, beverage, or otherwise? You know they literally are the most important thing to your safety, if you don’t eat, you don’t , ahem, and if you don’t ahem, you die, but yes, to any of the lovely retail girls, I believe the actress Kimmy Kim, may have a video that’s right up your alley, or isle shall I say, for the cute guy you always eye off from isle 6, but, I am trying to keep it tasteful now ladies, but trust me, I think you lords and ladies of the supermarket isle are some of the most important in the country, Woolworths, how on earth are you going to sell that coffee when there is a pillar Infront of it and boxes? Come along now dears, basic merchandising! Fix it up, otherwise profits will go down.

Yes the self service checkout is great, when you just have a few things, confused the goodness out of me to begin with, but I eventually got my head around it, but I still do always prefer, to talk with a person, as I always say, even as the innovator, we must balance, technology, and convenience, it is on the morals, and ethics, of a good Director or CEO , to know the difference between using one or the other, yes, technology is brilliant, but there is nothing more brilliant than a human, with human, innovation, that can pivot on a dime, what we need, is balance, of human innovation, and technological innovation.
