Traditional Clay Pot Chicken Curry — Slow-Cooked, Rich, and Comforting 🍲🍗
Today I made chicken curry in a traditional clay pot, and the result was amazing. Cooking in earthenware gives the curry a beautiful earthy aroma and lets the flavors develop slowly and naturally. The chicken turned incredibly tender, coated in rich spiced gravy. A simple homemade dish, but full of warmth, tradition, and flavor.
Simple ingredients, slow heat, and a clay pot—that’s all it takes to create a meal full of warmth, tradition, and unforgettable flavor.
Ingredients
1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
2 medium onions, sliced
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tablespoon ginger paste
1 tablespoon garlic paste
3–4 green chilies
½ teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
½ teaspoon cumin powder
Salt to taste
½ teaspoon black pepper (optional)
2–3 tablespoons mustard oil or cooking oil
Fresh coriander for garnish
Water as needed
Method
Heat oil in the clay pot and fry the onions until golden. Add ginger, garlic, tomatoes, and spices, then cook until fragrant. Add the chicken and mix well so every piece is coated with the masala. Pour in a little water, cover the clay pot, and let it simmer slowly until the chicken becomes soft and tender and the gravy turns rich and flavorful. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
Best enjoyed with steamed rice, roti, or naan
