Lately, I have been sharing in my posts how I have been feeling about content creation. For the past few days, I honestly felt like I was losing motivation to create. That overflowing kind of inspiration that usually pushes me to take photos, write, and share food adventures just was not there. Ideas started to feel difficult, and even when I wanted to do something, the energy just did not seem to follow. It is a strange feeling, especially when creating content has become such a normal part of my lifestyle.

But tonight, I realized something simple. Sometimes I do not need to wait for inspiration to magically come back. Sometimes all I really need to do is go out, follow a craving, and just make it happen.
And that was exactly what I did.

Tonight, I had a strong craving for Bak Kut Teh, but not just any kind. I specifically wanted the herbal style soup, which is something that feels a little harder to find nowadays. Most places seem to lean toward the peppery version, so when you are craving the herbal one, it almost feels like going on a small food adventure. Since I really wanted it, I hopped on my bicycle and headed to Marsiling Food Centre, hoping that I would still be able to find a stall serving it.

Thankfully, Ann’s Choice still had it on the menu, and the moment I saw that, I did not hesitate to order.

It had been quite a while since I last had this dish, so for me it was an easy choice LOL. I was already starving by the time I reached the food centre, so even the short five-minute wait felt exciting. Sometimes when you are really hungry and really craving something specific, that final wait feels extra long.

Once the dish arrived, I went straight for the broth first. That first sip immediately reminded me why I wanted this so badly. The soup had all those comforting herbal notes that made it feel rich, nourishing, and almost healing. It was one of those broths that makes you feel like you are drinking something genuinely good for your body. I especially liked that they added goji berries, which gave the soup a light sweetness and a subtle berry-like flavor. That little touch made the broth even more enjoyable and gave it more depth.

Of course, Bak Kut Teh would not feel complete without the pork ribs, and I was happy with the portion they served. The ribs were satisfying and made the whole dish feel hearty enough to really answer my craving. After wanting this for so long, it was such a nice feeling to finally sit down and enjoy it properly. The rice also paired very well with the meal. It was simple, but it worked perfectly for soaking up the flavors of the broth and making the dinner even more filling.

Another part that I enjoyed was the dark sauce they served on the side. It came with plenty of chopped chili and raw garlic, and I definitely did not hold back with that. I actually like raw garlic with dishes like this because it adds a sharper kick and makes the whole meal feel even more robust. Together with the dark sauce and chili, it gave the pork a stronger and more exciting flavor whenever I wanted a little extra punch.

To complete the meal, I also got myself a cup of sugarcane with lemon. That turned out to be such a refreshing pairing. The sweetness of the sugarcane combined with the sourness of the lemon made it feel cooling and energizing at the same time. After the deep herbal richness of the Bak Kut Teh, that drink gave the meal a brighter and more refreshing finish.
Overall, this dinner turned out to be exactly what I needed, not just for my craving but also for my mood. It reminded me that sometimes the best way to break out of a creative slump is to simply go out and experience something enjoyable. A satisfying bowl of herbal Bak Kut Teh, a refreshing drink, and a little bike ride to get there somehow made the night feel complete.
Bon appétit.
