Last Sunday’s dinner felt extra satisfying because it came right after one of those cycling sessions that really drains your energy in the best way possible. After reaching my goal of making it all the way to Upper Seletar Reservoir, I was already thinking about one thing… a heavy and rewarding dinner LOL. My legs were tired, my appetite was huge, and I knew exactly where I wanted to go next.

Since Springleaf is one of the closest areas near Upper Seletar Reservoir, I cycled there and headed to a place that has already become familiar to me—Wong Chiew Hong Kong Restaurant. I have dined here plenty of times before, so it is one of those places where I already feel comfortable the moment I arrive. I like that kind of familiarity, especially after a long ride. It takes away the pressure of deciding too much because I already know they serve good food at a reasonable price, and their menu has plenty of variety too.

Originally, I was hoping to get their roasted meat because that is one of the things I usually enjoy here. Unfortunately, it was already sold out by the time I arrived. Too bad, because I really do like their roasted meat. But at the same time, I took that as a sign to try something different from their menu. Sometimes that is how good food discoveries happen, right?

So this time, I decided to order their Seafood Fried Rice. Seafood fried rice is one of those dishes that I can never really say no to. It is simple, familiar, and very satisfying when done right. Since I had not tried Wong Chiew’s version yet, I got curious about how they would do it. Maybe it would surprise me and give me another reason to come back again and try even more dishes from their menu.

When the plate arrived, it already looked like the kind of meal I needed after cycling. The portion was generous, and the fried rice had that light golden look from the egg that always makes it look extra appetizing. It was packed with rice, bits of egg, and seafood, and every spoonful felt filling without being too oily. I really enjoyed how comforting it was. This was not the type of fried rice that tries too hard. It was just straightforward, flavorful, and satisfying.

Of course, I could not stop there. Since I also like their dim sum, I ordered their meat dumplings too. And honestly, I highly recommend giving them a try. They are packed with flavor and meat, and because they are steamed fresh when you order them, you can really taste the quality. They came out hot, tender, and juicy, which made them even more enjoyable.
I even had a funny little moment with the meal because I placed one of the dumplings right on top of the fried rice, and suddenly the whole plate looked even better LOL. It felt like I had added a little crown to my dinner. But beyond how it looked, it actually made the dish more delicious too. The dumpling added more meaty flavor and made each bite feel more complete.

To go with all that heaviness, I ordered a glass of iced lemon tea. For me, this drink is always such a perfect companion to rich and savory food. Every sip gave me that refreshing break I needed between spoonfuls of fried rice and bites of dim sum. I always find iced lemon tea to be one of the easiest drinks to pair with almost any dish, and this dinner proved that again.

Overall, this meal felt like the perfect reward after a tiring but fulfilling cycling session. Good food, a familiar place, and that feeling of finally sitting down after achieving a goal—sometimes that is all I really need to make a Sunday feel complete.
Bon appetit.
