One of the reasons why I keep coming back to the Maxwell area, especially during Sunday, is definitely the food. For me, Maxwell Food Centre is like a food haven in the city. There are so many stalls, so many choices, and even many international cuisines around the area because Maxwell is also a very touristy spot.

So every time I visit, I always tell myself that maybe this time I should try something different. Maybe something that I don’t usually eat. Maybe something from another cuisine. But then again, I still find myself going back to local food LOL.
Last Sunday was exactly like that.

I was walking around Maxwell Food Centre, looking at the stalls and thinking about what to eat. There were plenty of tempting options, but somehow my attention was caught by this roasted meat stall. Maybe it was the display that got me first. The roasted duck, roasted chicken, roasted pork, and char siew were all hanging beautifully behind the glass. Everything looked glossy, smoky, and very inviting.

There is really something about roasted meat stalls that can easily attract a hungry person. The moment you see those golden-brown and dark caramelized pieces of meat, it feels like your appetite automatically wakes up hahaha.

What made this stall more interesting was their serving option called the “Combo Trio.” For SGD 7.00, I could enjoy three different kinds of roasted meat in one plate. I found that quite unique because usually, most stalls only offer a combination of two meats. But here, I had the chance to try three at the same time, and of course that made my decision easier.
So I went for the combo with roasted duck, roasted pork, and char siew over rice.

When the plate arrived, it looked really satisfying already. The rice was covered with generous slices of meat, and each type had its own character. The char siew had that shiny reddish glaze that looked sweet and savory at the same time. The roasted duck had that deeper flavor, and the roasted pork looked so tempting with its crispy skin.

Among the three, my favorite was definitely the roasted pork LOL.
You can really see from the photo how crispy the pork skin was. But seeing is one thing, biting into it is another level. The skin had that beautiful crunch, and I think this might be one of the crispiest roasted pork skins I have ever tried. It was really amazing. The meat underneath was still tender enough, so the contrast between crispy skin and juicy meat made every bite so enjoyable.
The char siew was also nice. It had that sweet and smoky flavor that goes so well with rice. I liked how the sauce gave it that glossy finish, making it extra appetizing. The roasted duck was flavorful too, although I found the sauce a bit salty for my taste. Not a big issue though, because everything else on the plate was still very satisfying.
Actually, maybe the only problem was that I did not have enough rice hahaha. The meats were so tasty that I kept wanting more rice to go with every bite. Maybe I was just very hungry that day, but I really felt like an extra portion of rice would have made the meal even better.

To complete the lunch, I also had iced coffee. That cold and creamy drink was such a nice pairing with the roasted meat. After all that savory and smoky flavor, the iced coffee made the whole meal feel more complete and refreshing.
Overall, this was a simple but very satisfying Sunday lunch at Maxwell Food Centre. The Combo Trio was worth trying, especially if you want variety in one plate. But next time, I think I might order just the roasted pork alone because that crispy skin really left a strong impression on me.
Bon appetit!
