Today’s weather was the perfect excuse for a comforting dinner. It had been raining since the morning and continued all the way into the afternoon, making the whole day feel cool, calm, and a little cozy. On days like this, I always start craving something warm and soupy, especially something I have not eaten in weeks because the recent weather has been far too warm for it. So tonight, I decided to head over to Geylang Bahru Food Centre to satisfy that craving with a proper hearty soup meal.

After looking around, I found myself drawn to a stall selling fish soup, ban mian, and mini steamboat. The Seafood Mini Steamboat immediately stood out to me. Sometimes it does not take long to decide when a dish matches your mood perfectly, and that was exactly what happened tonight. The moment I saw it on the menu, I knew it was the right choice. With the cool rainy weather outside, a bubbling pot of soup just felt like the best possible dinner.

I was actually quite excited while waiting for my order to be prepared. The wait was around ten minutes, which honestly felt very reasonable, especially for something that is cooked fresh. And once I finally received my tray, I knew the wait was worth it. The presentation may not be the prettiest or most polished, but this is one of those meals where the heartiness matters more than appearances. The little metal pot looked full to the brim, and even at first glance, I could already tell it was going to be a very filling dinner.

What impressed me immediately was how much they packed into it for only SGD 7.00. I actually found myself wondering how they manage to make a profit with such a generous serving. That is one of the reasons I really enjoy supporting hawker food stalls like this. There is something very admirable about a humble food stall serving affordable food with generous ingredients, especially when the quality is still there.
And thankfully, the quality really was there. The prawns were big, plump, and fresh, which made every bite satisfying. The fish slices were also generous, and I could tell they were fresh from their texture. They were tender, clean-tasting, and very enjoyable with the light soup. There was also a good amount of vegetables inside the pot, which made the meal feel balanced and even more comforting. Slurping the soup together with the vegetables made the whole experience feel very nourishing.

Another thing I appreciated was the variety of ingredients. There was tofu inside, which added a little more substance and protein to the meal, and I liked how it soaked up the broth. I also noticed seaweed in the soup, which I thought was a very nice touch by the stall owner. It gave the pot a little more character and made the dish feel more thoughtful rather than just being a basic seafood soup. Small details like this always make me enjoy a meal more because they show that some care went into the final bowl.
The soup itself was subtle, light, and clean rather than overly rich or heavily seasoned. I personally enjoyed that a lot. Sometimes a lighter broth allows the freshness of the ingredients to shine more clearly, and that was definitely the case here. Every sip felt warm and soothing, which was exactly what I wanted on a rainy evening like this. It was the kind of meal that slowly relaxes you while you eat.

Overall, I really enjoyed this dinner at Geylang Bahru Food Centre. It was simple, hearty, affordable, and very satisfying. The rainy weather made the experience even better, and the Seafood Mini Steamboat turned out to be the perfect answer to my long-awaited soup craving. I will definitely be back for more.
Bon appétit.
