This is a bit of a late post because today I’m sharing about the dinner I had last Saturday, right after a tiring cycling session at Marina Barrage. After a ride like that, I was definitely hungry enough for something rewarding. The funny thing is, even though there are already so many food choices around the Marina Bay area, I still decided to make life a little harder for myself and cycle another 30 minutes just to reach Beach Road. I suddenly missed going to Golden Mile Food Centre, so that became my next destination in search of something truly worth craving.
And honestly, I’m glad I followed that craving.

My dinner choice that night was from Ashes Burnit!, and I got myself their cheeseburger set. The moment I saw it, I already knew I made the right decision. First of all, their signature black bun makes the burger look extra neat and attractive. It is one of those burgers that immediately catches your attention even before you take the first bite. I have to admit, this burger looked almost too good not to photograph. The presentation alone already made the meal feel exciting.

What I really liked was how photogenic it was. Even a simple 45-degree angle shot was enough to make it look drool-worthy. That is the power of nicely presented food. It builds excitement even before the tasting begins. It makes you appreciate the effort behind the dish, and it also makes the food feel a little more special. Of course, I had to control my hunger for a while so I could take a few proper photos before leaving a huge bite mark on the burger LOL.

Once I finally started eating, the burger did not disappoint. It was satisfying in the way a good cheeseburger should be. Messy enough to feel indulgent, but still neat enough to enjoy properly. The patty was juicy, the cheese added richness, and the bun itself gave the whole burger a distinct character. I think the bun is really one of the highlights here because it makes the burger stand out visually while still holding everything together nicely. It felt like the kind of comfort food that was perfect after burning so much energy on the bike.

I also want to talk about the fries because even though they may look like just a side dish, they were actually very good on their own. They were freshly cooked, very crispy, and clearly not an afterthought. What made them even better was the savory coating on the outside. That extra layer of seasoning gave the fries more flavor and made them dangerously addictive. So no, the fries were definitely not just there to fill the plate. They actually added a lot to the meal.

To complete the combo, I got myself an iced sugar cane juice with lemon, and this turned out to be such a perfect match for the burger. I really liked the balance between the two. The cheeseburger was rich and savory, the fries were crispy and well-seasoned, and then the drink came in with that refreshing sweetness from the sugar cane and the slight tanginess from the lemon. It was such a good combination. The lemon really made the drink feel even more refreshing and honestly a little addictive too.
After a long cycling session, this was exactly the kind of dinner I needed. It was satisfying, flavorful, refreshing, and worth the extra ride to Beach Road. Sometimes the best part of a food adventure is not just the food itself, but the effort you make to get there. In this case, I would say it was definitely worth it.
I’ll definitely be back again for another cheeseburger and sugar cane lemon combo.
Bon appétit.
