Greetings, my dear food-loving friends. I hope you are all well, healthy, and happy, and that you have a great weekend.
Last night, one of my clients arrived with a surprise for me: two typical dishes that I had never tried before. I was very surprised because it was such a nice gesture on his part.
Several weekends ago, we had been talking about food. He asked me what I liked about the local cuisine, because he loves our arepas. I told him that I really like ajiaco, that I have found some of the breads I have tried to be very tasty, and that I also like natilla, among other things I have been discovering.
In the middle of that conversation, he asked me if I had tried lechona or insulso tolimense. I told him no, that I hadn't tried those two things yet.
Well, it turns out he was in Tolima and last night he showed up with a container of lechona with insulso for me to try.
Saludos, mis queridos amigos amantes de las comidas. Espero que se encuentren muy bien, con salud y bienestar, y que tengan un buen fin de semana.
Anoche, uno de mis clientes llegó con un detalle para que probara dos platos típicos que yo todavía no conocía. Me sorprendió muchísimo porque fue un gesto muy bonito de su parte.
Hace varios fines de semana habíamos estado conversando sobre la comida. Él me preguntaba qué cosas me gustaban de aquí, porque a él le encantan nuestras arepas. Yo le conté que me gusta mucho el ajiaco, que algunos panes que he probado me han parecido muy ricos, y que la natilla también me gusta bastante, entre otras cositas que he ido descubriendo.
En medio de esa conversación me preguntó si yo había probado la lechona o el insulso tolimense. Le dije que no, que esas dos cosas todavía no las había probado.
Pues resulta que estuvo en el Tolima y anoche apareció con un envase de lechona con insulso para que yo las probara.

The lechona contains yellow peas, pork, rice, and various seasonings such as saffron and cumin. I liked it. I can't say whether it's better or worse than others because it's the first time I've eaten it, but I found it tasty and flavorful.
The insulso was another story. I didn't like it. I didn't find the taste pleasant, and I can't say that it tasted like anything in particular because it really didn't taste like anything to me. For me, it has the right name. It is made with corn flour, panela, cinnamon, and water, and is wrapped in banana leaves.
I thanked my client very much for the gesture and was also honest with him. I told him what I liked and what I didn't like.
Now I have to try other lechonas to be able to say if the one from Tolima is the best. As for the bland one, for now, I don't want to try it again.😅
La lechona lleva arveja amarilla, carne de cerdo, arroz y varios condimentos como azafrán y comino. Me gustó. No puedo decir si es mejor o peor que otras porque es la primera vez que la como, pero me pareció sabrosa y con buen sabor.
El insulso fue otra historia. No me gustó. El sabor no me resultó agradable y tampoco les puedo decir que me supo a algo en particular porque realmente no me supo a nada, para mí, tiene el nombre bien puesto. Está preparado con harina de maíz, panela, canela y agua, y se envuelve en hojas de plátano.
Igual le agradecí mucho a mi cliente por el detalle y también fui sincera con él. Le conté lo que sí me gustó y lo que no.
Ahora me toca probar otras lechonas para poder decir si la tolimense es la mejor. Del insulso, por ahora, no quiero repetir.😅
