Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗
Follow me as I walk you through how to make Nigerian Street food known as Risky Burger...
Risky burger is made from agege bread and fried eggs. Depending on your budget you can request for extras like sausage or sardine. But the standard one is bread and eggs. It is an affordable meal those days when we were on campus but I can't boldy say that now because the prices of food have gone up.
In most Nigerian Universities, risky burger is a lifesaver not just a food. It is that meal you can depend on after a long day in school and you are too tired to hit the kitchen. It is mostly prepared in the night at specific locations on campuses where street food like noodles, fried yam, bean cake (akara balls) and other foods are prepared.
I can remember an experience when I was in Uni when I was coming back from an evening lecture and I was very famished. I stopped by at the risky burger spot to grab some for myself but after about twenty minutes of waiting I had to angrily go to my room to find something else to eat. Why? There were long queues of people waiting for their turn. It could take an extra twenty minutes before it gets to my turn but I was exhausted and didn't have the patience to stay on the queue. This shows how students are fond of this food because of its taste and affordability.
Lately, this food is popular on the streets and is mostly prepared by Mai Shayi, that is people who sell tea on the streets. In fact, it is also included on the menu of some fancy restaurants. This show how this food that evolved from Nigerian higher institutions have become a food for all and sundry.
INGREDIENTS
Bread
4 eggs
Carrots
Scotch bonnet
Vegetable oil
Onions
Salt
Seasoning cubes
Step by Step
Let's start the process by prepping all the ingredients we'd be using to make our Nigerian risky burger.
Wash your onions and grate it into desired size and shape. Set aside.
Wash your carrots and grate it too. Set aside
Wash your pepper and slice into desired size. Depending on how hot you want your meal to be you can adjust the amount of scotch bonnet you are slicing.
Next, wash and crack your eggs in a bowl. Whisk it and add some salt, seasoning cubes and set aside.
Now, place your frying pan on meduim heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
When the oil is heating up add the onions and saute. Then, add the carrot and stir for about a minute before adding the scotch bonnet. Add some seasoning if needed. Stir fry all the ingredients in the frying pan for at least two minutes.
Then, add the whisked eggs into the frying pan. Allow to sit for some minutes before flipping it over to the other side. Then scramble the eggs while you leave it to fully cook.
Now that the eggs are ready, we will slice our bread into two as shown in the image. Then you will gently place the eggs in the middle of the bread.
Then in your frying pan, rub some oil that will be enough to toast the bread. The aim is to give the bread a golden brown texture.
Ensure you toast both side of the bread until they have that crispy golden brown feel.
Your Nigerian risky burger is ready.
Enjoy with a cup of tea or any drink of your choice.
