“Tangy & Spicy Chalta Achar – A Traditional Bengali Delight 😋”

Hello food lovers! 🍴
Today I’ve come up with a delicious pickle recipe — Chalta Pickle (Elephant Apple Pickle). Most of us love the tangy taste of chalta pickle. Among all types of pickles, this one is my favorite! Whenever I make it at home, it finishes in no time — it’s that tempting and tasty! I prepare it very easily with just a few ingredients, and today I’m going to share that simple recipe with you.

🧂 Ingredients:

Chalta (Elephant apple)

Sugar

Panch phoron (five spice mix)

Cumin seeds

Coriander seeds

Dried red chili powder

Salt to taste

Mustard oil

Turmeric powder

🌶️ Preparing the spice mix:

In a dry pan, lightly roast cumin seeds, panch phoron, coriander seeds, and dried red chilies. Once roasted, grind them into a fine powder using a blender.

🍯 Preparation method:

  1. Wash the chalta fruits thoroughly and cut them into small pieces. Wash them again and then slightly crush the pieces using a pestle or stone grinder.

  1. After that, put the crushed chalta in a pan with a little water, turmeric powder, and salt. Boil it until it becomes soft.

  1. Once boiled, strain the water properly using a strainer.

  1. Heat some mustard oil in another pan. When the oil gets hot, add two dried red chilies and then pour in the boiled chalta pieces.
  1. Add the prepared spice mix, sugar, and chili powder one by one. Stir well so everything mixes evenly.
  1. Keep stirring occasionally until the sugar melts completely. Once it does, cover the pan and cook for about 30 minutes.

After half an hour, your mouth-watering Chalta Pickle will be ready! 😋
