Este mes tuve un particular Momento Foodie que me trasladó de inmediato a recuerdos de mi niñez. Hace un par de días atrás mi novio y yo nos antojamos de ir a comer helados, así que terminamos yendo a un lugar muy conocido en Caracas, una icónica marca que cuenta con un poco más de 60 años de historia. Si eres caraqueño muy posiblemente te recordarás del famoso Crema Paraíso y, pues sí, aún existe y todavía conserva esas vibras retro que tanto lo caracterizan.
Recuerdo que cuando era niña, mi abuela solía llevarme con frecuencia a este lugar a comer helados de tinita (helado en vaso) y en más de una ocasión comimos las famosas pizzas del lugar. Sentarme a comer una barquilla me trajo recuerdos de aquellos tiempo, pero cuando comencé a percibir que el helado se derretían regresé de inmediato a la realidad (ja, ja, ja). En esta ocasión cada uno de nosotros pidió helado sabor a chocolate. El mío estaba cubierto con gotas de chocolate y el helado de chocolate de mi novio estaba cubierto por una capa gruesa de chocolate. Les diré que me estafé a mí misma, pues ambos helados tenían el mismo costo de $4 pero claramente las proporciones no eran equivalentes. Lo que sí me dejó impresionada fue esa cobertura de chocolate tan compacta de uno de los helados...aún me pregunto cómo lo logran.
This month I had a particular Foodie Moment that immediately took me back to my childhood memories. A couple of days ago my boyfriend and I were craving for ice cream, so we ended up going to a very well known place in Caracas, an iconic brand that has a little over 60 years of history. If you are from Caracas you will probably remember the famous Crema Paraíso and, yes, it still exists and still retains those retro vibes that characterize it so much.
I remember when I was a child, my grandmother used to take me often to this place to eat tinita ice cream (ice cream in a glass) and on more than one occasion we ate the famous pizzas of the place. Sitting down to eat a cup brought back memories of those times, but when I started to notice that the ice cream was melting I immediately came back to reality (ha, ha, ha). This time we each ordered chocolate flavored ice cream. Mine was covered with chocolate drops and my boyfriend's chocolate ice cream was covered in a thick layer of chocolate. I will tell you that I conned myself, as both ice creams were the same $4 cost but clearly the proportions were not equivalent. What did leave me impressed was that very compact chocolate coating on one of the ice creams...I still wonder how they do it.
Ahora que me doy cuenta, los pocos Momentos Foodie que tuve durante este mes fueron para relajarme y descansar un poco la mente. La idea de ir a comer helados, en parte, fue para desestresarnos un poco y una de mis pocas salidas a tomar café sirvió para este mismo motivo. En la zona donde resido realmente no hay muchos lugares geniales para ir a tomar un buen café, es más, creo que el único lugar decente que ofrece un café de calidad y a buen precio es la cafetería que se encuentra dentro del Supermercado Fórum. Ya les he hablado acerca de esta cafetería en publicaciones anteriores en donde les comentaba que el café que ellos comercializan, de la marca Don Elías, es excelente y los precios son bastante considerables. Este ha sido mi vicio durante las últimas semanas: cupuccino grande por el módico precio de $1,5, ¡un dólar y medio cuesta el café grande y, además es de muy buena calidad! yo diría que Café Don Elías podría convertirse en la competencia directa de la franquicia Páramo Café si incluyera más opciones en su menú y tuviera una estrategia de marketing que le permitiera llegar a más personas.
Ese día me antojé de acompañar mi café con una quesadilla andina de esas que tienen un perfecto contraste entre los dulce del pan con lo salado de la crema de queso, ¡una maravilla! Un Momento Foodie muy humilde, pero que hizo feliz y que, además, me permitió despejar la mente.
Now that I realize it, the few Foodie Moments I had during this month were to relax and rest my mind a bit. The idea of going out for ice cream, in part, was to de-stress a bit and one of my few coffee outings served the same purpose. In the area where I live there really aren't many great places to go for a good coffee, esmás, I think the only decent place is the coffee shop located inside the Forum Supermarket. I have already told you about this coffee shop in previous posts where I commented that the coffee they sell, Don Elias brand, is excellent and the prices are quite considerable. This has been my vice during the last few weeks: big cupcino for the modest price of $1.5, a dollar and a half costs a large coffee and it is also of very good quality! I would say that Café Don Elías could become the direct competition of the Páramo Café franchise if they included more options in their menu and had a marketing strategy that would allow them to reach more people.
That day I craved to accompany my coffee with a quesadilla andina of those that have a perfect contrast between the sweetness of the bread with the salty of the cream cheese, a marvel! A very humble Foodie Moment, but one that made me happy and also allowed me to clear my mind.
