In agriculture the season always come and go and this is why you have to be specific in what you plant or you want to cultivate a crop so that you can enjoy the good benefits at the right time. Crops like Miss or corn is a very common type of crops that is cultivated in West Africa Nigeria and in most part of the world. Regardless of this even when you plant your corn, you must the rest assured that there is always an harvesting time. Likewise you must also know that if it's a very big commercial crop that almost everyone consume. Then you must know that in terms of harvesting follows the cooking or roasting style of consumption. When it comes to corn it can either be roasted or cooked or sundried. When you decide on your own then you must also be ready to follow the guidelines. I was on a Transit when I saw this woman along the roadside roasting corn for a survival. I went straight to her for a little bit discussion and I also bought some few roasted corn.
When I saw the woman she wasn't the only one seated. There was also close to four women roasting corn along the same line. After I greeted her I also asked some questions about when did she actually started this kind of business and it was stated by her that, this corn roasting has pave way for her for a very long time. More than 10 years ago and that was why she stick to this kind of business. Although it is a very lucrative business but not everyone can sit at the roadside to roast corn 🌽🌽. I took some pictures of how she prepared herself and also prepare the corn before roasted.
- This was when she and her child was spinning off the corn shaft. It is highly necessary for this type of method. Although roasting of corn can be in several ways. So after peeling it then you start roasting it. But on the other hand if you want to cook it you can cook it directly with the back shaft or you also peel it.
This was her child helping her to do some slight processing as well.
When the attend to customers also depend on how much corn you want to buy. And which type of method you want. There are some people that came there to buy as it was, even with the back shaft.
- Here comes the roasting process.
Among those corn that I saw on the floor I also picked one or two and I bought them fresh as it was for cooking beans.
The method of roasting corn also needed to be follow if you want to put this into practice. Whenever you buy some few fresh corn. You can buy some few pieces of charcoal then you light it up, and you allow it to get hot.
These are also some fresh corn not yet into the roasting process.
Then you put your wire gauze, then also you lay your already peeled corn on the wire gauze one after the other then you start turning it immediately you see that one side has been roasted.
This kind of business is very lucrative but for very hard working people. In some other States as well I saw men going into this kind of business to earn a living.
