TikTok-Inspired Chicken Asado: Easy Homemade Recipe

in Hive Food3 days ago

Hi, all!

‎This recipe I'm going to share with you today is one of those happy finds on TikTok. ☺️

‎It's called Chicken Asado.

‎I didn't grow up cooking it this way, and I won't even claim it as my own.

‎I simply copied what I saw online, tried it in my own kitchen, and was surprised by how flavorful it turned out.

Ingredients I Used

‎• 1/2 kg chicken
‎• 1/4 cup soy sauce
‎• 2 tbsp vinegar
‎• 2 tbsp ketchup
‎• 4 cloves garlic, minced
‎• 3 bay leaves
‎• 1/2 tbsp sugar (optional)
‎• 1 medium potato, sliced
‎• 1 medium tomato, chopped
‎• 1 small onion, chopped
‎• Red bell pepper: about 1 small, sliced
‎• A pinch of salt
‎• 1/2 tsp black pepper
‎• 1 1/2 cups water

Cooking Process

‎• I started by marinating the chicken first. In a bowl, I combined the chicken pieces with soy sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, chopped onion, ground black pepper, ketchup, and bay leaves. I made sure each piece was well-coated with the marinade, then let it sit for a while so the chicken could absorb all the flavors.

‎• While the chicken was marinating, I prepared the potatoes. I heated the oil in a pan and lightly fried the sliced potatoes until they were slightly golden. I took them out and set them aside.

‎• Using the same pan, I then fried the marinated chicken pieces until they were lightly browned. Once done, I removed them from the pan and set them aside as well.

‎Tips: Use a clean pan after frying the chicken. The pan is usually left with browned bits and caramelized marinade, which turn bitter once liquid is added. So it's best to clean it first.

‎• Next, I sautéed garlic and onion until fragrant, followed by chopped tomatoes and sliced bell pepper. I added ketchup and then poured in the remaining marinade sauce, letting everything cook together until aromatic. After that, I returned the chicken to the pan and added a little water. I let it simmer for about 30 minutes until the chicken became tender.

‎• Once the sauce started to thicken, I added a bit of sugar to balance the flavors, along with the fried potatoes. I let the dish simmer and coated everything nicely.

‎And just like that, the chicken asado was done! 🥳

‎Rich, flavorful, and perfect with hot steamed rice.

‎The result was surprisingly good. The sauce had that perfect mix of savory and sweet, and the chicken absorbed all the flavors.

‎What I loved most about this recipe is how easy it was to find its ingredients.

‎So if you're looking for an easy ulam with a big flavor, this chicken asado is definitely worth trying.

‎Until my next TikTok-inspired ulam...

Thanks for the visit! Have a lovely day. Buh-bye. 💗🌸
