Omah Ndeso A Cozy Dining Place in Klaten

Some time ago, I went to lunch with my mother at a well known restaurant in the Pedan area, Klaten, called Omah Ndeso. It's located in Polaharjo Village. If you're coming from main road, it's a bit deeper inside, but it's not hard to find as it's quite recognized by the locals. Just from the outside, the atmosphere is already intriguing, with a large wooden sign reading “Omah Ndeso,” decorated with bamboo ornaments and lush climbing plants around it.
As soon as we entered the restaurant area, it felt cool. The front yard is spacious, with many large trees, playground and there are numerous spots for photos whether if you alone or with family.
On the right and left, there are several wood and bamboo gazebos, which serve as seating areas for dining. My mother smile as soon as she saw the atmosphere. We chose to sit in one of the gazebos a bit on the side, close to the pond. A gentle breeze made the environment very calm
A waiter came to bring the menu, which was simple in design but mouth-watering in content. There were fried chicken, fried duck, catfish, tilapia, and several vegetable options like sour vegetable, lodeh, and stir-fried water spinach. The prices? Extremely cheap. Most main dish are only around 11,000 to 25,000 rupiah, including rice and side dish.
My mother and I ordered village fried chicken, along with fried tofu and tempeh, and some chili sauce. We had iced tea to drink. It didn't take long for our order to arrive. The food was served on rattan plates lined with banana leaves, fresh vegetables and chili. My village fried chicken looked really tempting, and the chili was bright red, looking freshly ground. Unfortunately, I don't like spicy :(
The chicken was tender, and the skin was crispy. My mother also said the village fried chicken was delicious, the spices were well absorbed, and the meat had the sweet taste typical of free range chicken. While eating, we had a casual chat.
After eating, I took a moment to stroll around the location. There were many beautiful photo spots. One of them was near the garden, with an old wooden bench, hanging bamboo lights, and some antique displays. It’s perfect for those who like taking photos for stories on social media haha.😁
Overall, for the two of us, we spent only about 50,000 rupiah (3 USD). That included two servings of food, additional side dish, and drinks. I was a little surprised, how can a place like this the price still cheap?
On the way back, I felt a mix of fullness and happiness. Eating with my mother in comfortable place felt like more than just a meal, it was filled with memories, stories, and sense of home that can’t be expressed in just words.
If you in Klaten and want to try experience a meal in a simple yet warm place with a homey taste, I truly recommend "Omah Ndeso". And don’t forget to bring your parents or family, as the atmosphere is really suitable for moments worth remembering.
