Fried rice with eggs is a simple home-style dish. All you really need is some leftover rice and beaten eggs. Toss them together over high heat, then add whatever toppings you like—spring onions, ham, you name it. Once it’s all cooked through, you plate it up and it’s ready to eat. Even someone like me, who’s not exactly a kitchen pro, can manage to whip up a passable plate of egg fried rice. But to make it really delicious, well, that takes a few tricks.

This restaurant is literally called “Molten Egg Fried Rice”. When I looked it up online, I found out it’s considered an Instagram-worthy spot. Normally, I steer clear of places where you have to line up forever, but there wasn’t anything else nearby that I was craving, so I figured I’d try my luck and head there early. The first time I went, all excited, it turned out the place was closed that day. Just my luck! A wasted trip. Luckily, there was a nearby food market with some snacks to fill me up. I decided I’d give it another shot the next day.

The following day, the place was indeed open—and to my surprise, there weren’t nearly as many customers as I’d expected. All that planning was for nothing! The restaurant wasn’t like the usual Instagram-famous spots I had in mind—no trendy quotes on the wall for selfies, no colorful dishes or drinks, no stylish and comfy seating. Instead, it had an open-air dining area, old-school wooden desks like you’d find in a vintage classroom, and, of course, its star attraction: the visually striking molten egg fried rice. And that’s exactly what I’d come for.

With regular fried rice, the flavor tends to stay the same from the first bite to the last. But here, the fried rice came in a wooden tub, topped with two eggs. One of them was cooked sunny-side-up, with the yolk still half-runny—the star of the show. The moment I broke it open, golden yolk flowed out, staying rich, silky, and glossy. I took a quick sip of the egg yolk, then scooped up a spoonful of fried rice, followed by a sip of fish soup. The way they blended together in my mouth created an irresistible texture and taste. It was heavenly! Too bad there wasn’t any chili sauce or pepper to add that extra punch and layer of flavor. Still, I dug in, alternating between big and small bites, until my plate was clean. I could’ve easily gone for another serving.

Egg fried rice is such a basic dish—it doesn’t need fancy ingredients or complicated cooking. But this version was full of surprise, like unwrapping a present. It was a feast for the eyes and addictive for the taste buds. And with a pretty reasonable price tag, it’s no wonder this place has earned its fame online. It’s all thanks to that great taste.
