I visited the Night Market in Kaohsiung again recently. The first time I came here was years ago, when a friend of mine from the south took me on his scooter. The night market is located at the corner of an intersection. People have to cross a long traffic light to get there. Honestly, it’s not a huge night market, but the crowd never seems to stop. Every time the green light flashes, people stream in and out like a flowing river. It’s kind of impressive to watch.

This time, revisiting the same night market, everything felt familiar, such as the same crowds, the same buzzing atmosphere. But now it’s even more accessible since the MRT opened nearby. For people coming from out of town, that’s super convenient. The moment I stepped in, it was all bright lights and loud voices. You can immediately feel the strong local vibe. It’s vibrant, real, and full of life. No wonder Ruifeng Night Market is where Kaohsiung locals go to eat and hang out.

The food stalls are organized neatly, and every little alley has its own surprises. I came across the popular Angel Chicken Steak stand, which had red ropes set up for the line. It was clearly a hotspot. The chicken steak was NT$100 a piece, which isn’t exactly cheap by southern Taiwan standards. I also tried the deep-fried squid, which was even bigger than my face! If you don’t want to bite into it like a beast, you can ask them to cut it into smaller pieces. The crispy coating locks in the juicy squid inside—tender, flavorful, and super satisfying.

After that, I grabbed a drink to cool down. A small watermelon juice cost me NT$30. I remember it used to be only NT$10 or NT$15 the last time I came... I guess those cheap and refreshing juices are just part of the past now.

By the time I finished walking around, my hands were full of snacks I couldn’t finish and my stomach was completely stuffed—but my heart felt full too. Ruifeng Night Market isn’t just a place to eat. It’s a way to experience daily life in Kaohsiung. People usually think of Liuhe Night Market when they hear "Kaohsiung night market", but for the locals, Ruifeng is the real deal.
