Together we shine - Maha Shivaratri get together
Living a lively community brings in lot of advantages - we often meet and celebrate several occasions together, round the year, and this true form of socialization is a big gift for all of us.
Maha Shivaratri is one such big occasion, during which every year, a community dinner is organized in our society premises. Since most people keep fasting as part of the rituals performed on Maha Shivaratri, so this dinner party is kept afterwards, so that everyone can enjoy.
Organizing committee members take care of the planning and the cooking starts in the day, so all vegetables, groceries are made ready the prior day. And we have most of the utensils in the society, so some bare minimum items are procured from the tent house. And the most important part of the function is finding a perfect cook - only experience can help that and I must say, this time everything was very tasty this time - they brought in a nice cook.
Rice, daal, Puri, a mixed veg curry, Paneer, Khata, Paes - everything was perfect and tasty, the serving started around 9 pm in the evening.
This dinner is mostly sponsored by the society but few members also contribute as they wish - considered a kind act.
Gents taking charge at first and help with the serving .
Later our ladies stepped in, as the crowd reduced, and gents were relived to have the dinner.
We often stay busy in our daily lives and these are some golden moments providing opportunity to enjoy the company of each other. Especially living in core families, and literally no time for meeting friends daily, this compensates a lot. This is one of the best part of our culture - we often have celebrations uniting us again and again, and they make life more meaningful and happy. Recently I was reading a post and this caught my attention :
I like to talk to random people and ask them about their families, and tell them about my own family. Something I miss in the west! No one here, back in the US, ask a random person on their first visit, "How's family?", and see people responds with honestly and have a conversation about how our respective wives are giving us hard times! :)
We enjoy a much better community life here in India, even though, we do not have all the luxury, like the west. Granted the fact that there will be always some people who bring in negative vibes, they don't stand for a long time, when the bigger chunk of people decide to stay happy and celebrate together - Life in India is very engaging.
And this occasion put the foundation of our next celebration - Holi.............the color festival, one of the biggest celebration...
