RE: Hive Gives Me Hope!

in Silver Bloggers16 days ago

I'm an old hand at the welfare system but I also know that it can destroy my mental health if I am not careful. I am lucky that I have at least a few employers doing the right thing. I worked enough to cover rent this week, so we'll see what happens.

I am looking at doing those "Fee Free" TAFE courses to keep me from having to do Work For The Dole and other things.

I guess it's time to re-think a long term plan and put it into action.

Sort:

I don't think I'm even eligible for any of the fee free TAFE stuff, let alone know what it available on it these days. Might be something worth looking into if I don't hear anything about my employment prospects or run out of the steam to constantly apply for things.

I guess I am lucky that I won't be eligible for the "welfare" system for many years due to my savings, but that's a positive.

I probably don't even count in the "unemployment" statistics, despite my desire to do meaningful work in my field.

I am not sure there are restrictions with the free TAFE courses. There's one that teaches cyber security and apparently it's a growth industry in Adelaide but am not entirely sure.

Because I am employed at the Adelaide Oval, I might be able to pivot into their ICT section but we'll see.

I have asked them for extra work in different areas, but we'll see what happens.
I know what I want to achieve, but we'll see what happens.

Have you considered following up on those applications to see whether or not they've even read your applications?

That always helps. Networking with people for stray bits of information also helps somewhat too.

There are recruitment agencies that can offer bits and pieces too.
I use an app called Sidekicker to find a lot of the work I have been doing.

Thanks for the app recommendation. I'll give it a go if I keep seeing dead ends.

Cybersec is certainly a big industry, and it will only continue to grow, but I am not sure how "up to date" the TAFE courses would be on contemporary practice. I just remember doing my uni degree and remembering how out of date the software being taught was, to a point where it barely had any industry relevance.

A lot of them are with government departments, their turn around time is pretty slow. I got asked for a reference for a job with the Australian Bureau of Statistics, so I am hanging out, waiting for news of that one before I go on another flurry of applications.

Funny about recruitment agencies, I applied for a job at one, because I thought it would be interesting work - had an interview and got categorically rejected for being too far along in my career :P They wanted people with less experience and less ambition ;)

Personally, I’ve had to pivot into hospitality because that was where the work was.

The local hospitality companies have a monopoly on various locations.

I did a bit of cyber security at Uni but a recent certificate would look a lot better. My focus would be on using the course to create contacts within the industry and find out what’s available.

I recently did a mental first aid certificate. It’s 2 days and cost less than $25. Apparently a lot of government departments look favourably on them.

I think a lot of people oh HIVE could benefit from the mental health first aid. :p

I also forgot to mention Hive Engine in the blog post. I have over a thousand AU worth of SWAP.btc. I need to keep building it sporadically.

I have started investing in SWAP.eth because it’s a little more stable in price and has less environmental impact than most crypto.

Personally, I would look at reducing that amount. I know its decentralised, but the volume may be a problem once upon a future time if you want to withdraw or move i to other assets.

I’ve been dipping into it here and there when I have needed the HIVE. I could diversify a bit more.

I wouldn’t withdraw it all at once.

Yes, most definitely.
