So I live on the island of Java. In Java there are 3 regions : West Java, Central Java and East Java. Yogyakarta is in Central Java while Malang is in East Java.
In Central Java is characterized by sweet and not too spicy dishes. Meanwhile, in the East Java region, the food tends to be more salty and spicy. It has a taste that tends to be savory, sour and spicy because shrimp paste and paste are usually added as seasonings.
