I grew up as a papa's boy. I was always close to my father. I loved holding his hands, sitting beside him, and saying "I love you" and "Thank you" every day. He was my safe place when I was small, And up to now, he still is. Because of this, his 67th birthday became very special to me. I wanted to be there, So I filed with my 5 days vacation leave. I wanted to celebrate with him in the mountains, where my parents live a simple and happy life.

When we arrived at our home in the mountains, I immediately felt peace. The fresh air, the quiet surroundings, the smell of plants and soil, reminded me of my childhood. My father, Papang Bontoy. welcomed us with his usual soft smile. He is a very loving and supportive father. He does not talk a lot but his actions show how much he cares for us.

Life in the mountains is simple but full of joy. My parents raise goats, chickens, ducks and pigs. So when it's time to celebrate, there is no problem with food. We only need to buy the spice9s and other small ingredients. Everything else is already there. This is one thing I love about my father's life, very simple but complete.
There are only about 15 households in their place, so everyone knows when someone has a birthday. Sometimes the neighbors come and help with the preparation. Even then, our neighbors still came to help because that is how people are in the mountains, friendly and kind.
Early in the morning, the fun already started. My brother and my father roasted the chicken and duck. They kept teasing each other about who cooks better. My brother-in-law and our neighbor roasted the goat. There was smoke everywhere, and the smell of the meat filled the whole place. It felt warm and happy, the kids were laughing and running around. The dogs stayed near hoping for food. Everyone was smiling.

We did not have expensive decorations, we did not need them, we used decorations almost the same as last year. The mountains, the trees, and what made it special was our family being complete and enjoying the day together.
We finally sat down to eat, I looked at my father. He was silent as always, but he looked very happy. He watched us eat, laugh and talk. Also, the boys do not forget to celebrate with drinks, we called them the team Tanduay. And I knew he was thankful for the moment. That is my father's love. Quiet but deep.

My wish for my father, That God will pour out all his blessing, good health, peace and happiness. We are all thankful for his hard work especially in waking up early to go to the farm, to give us a better life.
