One can never be right with this fruit called cherry also known as agbalumo in Nigeria. It either you are lucky you buy a sweet one or a sour one but for me i have never been lucky with buying a completely sweet er I buy a set and out of that set some are sour sweets why the others are extremely sour.
From the picture above, we can say that the agbalumo would be sweet but the moment I tasted it it was so sour that I could feel my jaws experiencing some kind of contraction. The season for this fruit is usually during the dry season for this reason some people claim that it is only when rain has fallen on the fruits that is when it is sweet but unfortunately I don't think that is the problem here it just depends on the specie and the impatient of these sellers to plug the foot when it is not ripe and keep them at home to ripen them.
However, I always look forward to the season of this fruit because it is packed with numerous nutrients that are vital for our bodies as human. One of the important nutrients that this fruit gives is the vitamin C as research claims that the vitamin C embedded in one piece of agbalumo is more than what you can find in five oranges.
This is why I try to savour the taste of the agbalumo either sweet or sour, just to get the nutrients regardless. And it is also very cheap as I got five for 200 naira.
