This topic is something that I would love to share because this is somewhat interesting because the people here in our place can relate in this kind of scenarios.

I think this is a case to case basis that parents will decide or not of the careers paths of their children but in our country, there were times that the parents will decide on what career paths and or choices they can make. There were times that their children were the ones that decides their paths for themselves.
For the parents that decide on their children's paths, maybe the parents wants for their children to choose on what's best for their children because who doesn't want their child/children have a better future? Even if the children doesn't like the paths that their parents decided, they will accept that because it's in their family tree, they have no choice, and maybe it's their fate.

Yes, I think I would partly agree with what the parent's decide for them for their future but I won't agree if their child/children doesn't want the path that they have chosen because it's not the children's passion anymore if the parents decided on their path. It's okay if both the parents and their children love the paths and careers that they've chosen for them.
Just like one of my upperclassman in college that I heard that he is now taking a second degree course and continue to study on the course that I have now and asked him that why did he want to take this kind of course now even if he is successful and he is now a degree holder with honors and he just told me that it's what the parents told him about the career for him and he doesn't want to make his parents sad from not going to take the paths that they've chosen for him and after he graduated and working for a couple of years, he decided to take on a second degree course because on the second course that he have is the one that he loves the doing and he's passionate about it.
Now, he is a second degree holder and he is working in a company that is related to his second degree course.
As for me, I think the parents will be the one that always supports on what their children wants on their paths and careers because it's their life that they will continue to do when they grow up but the parents can suggest and advice them about the future that may hold on if that's the path or careers that they like.
Advises coming from their parents can be a great help for their children for their paths and careers because it will give the children a big picture on the careers that they choose.
The children/child may regret it later when they are working on that careers and paths that they don't like in future. I have a daughter now and she is really young and I think giving her the choices on the path that she likes is the best way for her to enjoy her life when she grows up.
