Rain, Dentist, No School, Writing, Seering Intense Migraine, Easy Tasty Dinner - Monday

in Homesteadinglast year

Woke up to it still raining and we managed .25" in the gauge, which fell atop the snow and made anything and everything a sheet of ice. At 5am I got the text that school would be a 2 hour late start since the roads on most of the bus routes were impassible. We are low enough elevation that the roads are just fine but a lot of the district is higher than us so were not as lucky.

Then we got the call that school was canceled for the day and also wrestling practice since no school.

I had my dentist appointment so headed into town for that which ended up being a good visit. My cleaning went easily and I am now scheduled to get the crown work done on my front tooth and a buildup for a molar. The front tooth had a filling that broke off last February and I have been living with it since. I had my 5 teeth removed then and after the dry sockets have had some ptsd from the experience so did NOT want to do more dental work. It is past time though that I get it done.

I was home and had the Wolves soccer game on while I wrote. Over the day I got about 1800 words written which put me over 9K so far and nearing midpoint of the story. The boys ended up heading next door to play with M for a while and I had walked to the kitchen for something and coughed hard. That caused me to tense my core which caused the dagger to be driven through my temples in a searing pain.

I can feel the muscles at the base of my skull are super messed up and my spine in my neck is way out of adjustment. This is causing the pain and I've been using the theracane, foam roller, then in the midst of the pain I fumbled around the bedroom and pulled out the muscle stimulator and put the electrodes as high on my neck as I could get. They don't stick to hair well so could only get them so high. I ran it for about 20 minutes which helped a little bit. It took a glass of electrolytes, some magnesium, water, and about an hour before the pain had subsided.

That really threw a wrench into the works for my afternoon as I was focused on the pain for most of it. I got a muscle relaxer in me mid day but it only did so much. Around 4pm I was in the kitchen trying to come up with something for dinner and pulled out the Betty Crocker cookbook and found the Spanish bean bake recipe which is STUPID EASY. I had no clue how it would taste but the ease was what had me.

I thawed a pound of ground beef then cooked it on the stove. a can of black beans and a can of pinto beans drained and rinsed, a jar of tomato sauce, salt, pepper, ancho powder, and salsa all mixed in the casserole dish, covered with foil, and baked at 400F for half an hour. Then I pulled the foil and spread mozzarella and put it back in for about 5 minutes. The dish came out really tasty and worked perfectly with the tortillas I made.

We had eaten and I went to the pantry to refill my drink and a shiver went up my spine which caused my neck to spasm and the searing pain shot through my head again. It wasn't quite as bad as the mid day one so I got ready and went to the hot tub where I pounded my back and neck with the jets for an hour.

Today the boys are at school, we only got .1" of rain in the prior 24 hours, I'll be trying to keep the pain at bay with ample massage, theracane, foam rolling, and pressure points. It'll be raining off and on, I want to get into the greenhouse to check on it now that it is warmer outside, I'll write the middle scene in my story, I need to do a walk around the farm to check on the melt and make sure everything is handling the winter so far, and I'm not sure what else as of yet.
