Super busy day yesterday that I tried to get done before the heat set in but ended up working all day. It was a red flag day thanks to the heat and the winds which did pop off some fires around the region.
I managed to get to the greenhouse early and got the tomatoes all trimmed and tied.
Then I grabbed a bucket and went to the pea row where I got 1.25 pounds this time.
The lettuce had started to bolt so it was time to hack it down. The bag was over 4 pounds which went to the cooler.
Some of our regular cabbage were ready and had to be harvested before the moths got to them too bad. I got 5 pounds from 6 heads.
The Emiko cabbage had gotten hit by earwigs pretty bad so I pulled the hearts that were still good. I got about 4.25 pounds from them which is most the rest of the row.
Just a few table dainty squash were ready and likely will be in full swing next week.
Mid day it was time to pull the garlic. First was the Penasco which gave me 73.
Then the rest of the Lukan was 31 for a total of 47.
The last was the rest of the Carpathian which was 35 for a total of 47.
The rows are now all pulled and the area will get beaten back into shape later this month.
Quite the hanging menagerie in the shed right now.
923 out of 1011 seems pretty good. I would have liked it to be fewer lost but less than 10% I can handle for now. Next season will be different as I will be planting in the main gardens instead.
The winds were up so I hauled my wing out to the yard and concertina folded it to save some space in packing.
The little Fly Catchers are working their asses off to keep these little monsters fed.
I'm sure they get pretty warm all mashed together in the heat of the day.
The winds whipped up a few fires in the region and the air turned to haze and the smell of smoke.
That made me think about putting up sprinklers in the yard as a bit of defense. So I had to run back and forth to the shed for parts and eventually got them hooked into the irrigation line.
I ran hoses between and staggered the rotors down the hill.
I had the top van18 too close to the middle rotor so ended up moving it up the hill.
Now the area below the hot tub is covered, the boys' play area, then the area below the studio. It runs each morning as the last zone.
I had run a load of wash as we need towels for the weekend.
The sheep were bitching at me so I went out to their pen as @stryeyz had gotten home from work. I had cut them off from their hut so now went and put in a pair of fence posts and stood the pallets back up so they have this area back. It is full of weeds and gives them their hut for cover.
My one avocado tree's soil has been drying out too fast so I found a bigger pot with some good soil still in it and potted it up. Gave them all a good watering.
I had had the Ozzy concert on for the evening and had not heard the text around 5:30 that there was grain ready for me. I headed out and got the trailer hooked up.
Then a really late and short soak for me.
I have been to town for grain this morning already and have it emptied. I still have to go around the garden and get in one last harvest this morning, finish packing, then we will be heading to Helena for my SIV course which starts tomorrow morning at 9am....
