Hello everyone
Today the rain had been relentless, dashing my hopes of visiting the quaint little cafe I'd been dreaming of. I watched the downpour from my window, waiting for a break in the weather that never came. Frustrated but determined to make the most of the soggy afternoon, I decided to visit my friend, who had recently opened a massage and beauty salon not too far from Kamala Beach.
The salon, a cozy haven of tranquility amidst the bustling beach area, seemed the perfect escape from the rain. I picked up the phone and called my friend to let her know I was coming over. "I've been craving papaya salad," I told her, hoping she might indulge my request. She laughed and assured me she'd prepare it, along with a steaming pot of fish tom yum.
With the promise of good food and great company, I set out on the 30-minute journey to the salon. The drive, though marred by the steady drizzle, felt lighter with the anticipation of the afternoon ahead. As I navigated the wet roads, I imagined the vibrant flavors of the papaya salad and the comforting warmth of the tom yum.
When I finally arrived, the welcoming glow of the salon was a sight for sore eyes. My friend greeted me with a warm hug, ushering me inside where the aroma of freshly prepared Thai dishes filled the air. We spent the afternoon chatting, laughing, and savoring every bite of the delicious meal. The rain continued to fall outside, but within the walls of the salon, it felt like a distant memory, replaced by the warmth of friendship and the joy of unexpected plans.
After eating my fill of the delicious papaya salad and fish tom yum, I leaned back in my chair with a contented sigh. The flavors had been a perfect antidote to the dreary weather. Feeling relaxed and happy, I turned to my friend and asked, "Could you do my hair?"
"Of course!" she replied with a grin, leading me to one of the salon chairs. As she began working her magic on my hair, we continued our lively conversation. We reminisced about old times, shared our latest news, and laughed over silly stories. The gentle hum of the hairdryer was a soothing backdrop to our chatter.
At one point, as she carefully styled my hair, we started discussing our dreams of traveling. The rain outside seemed less daunting as we talked about the sunny beaches we wanted to visit and the adventures we hoped to have. "Let's plan a trip together," she suggested, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "As soon as the weather gets better."
It wasn't until 3:00 p.m. that I finally waved goodbye to my friend and headed out to pick up my son from school. As I drove, I noticed that the rain had finally stopped, leaving the world fresh and glistening. On a whim, I decided to take a slight detour and drove towards Kalim Beach, a place I hadn't visited in a long time.
Kalim Beach, nestled right next to the more famous Patong Beach, is a small, charming spot that has always held a special place in my heart. Unlike the bustling sands of Patong, Kalim Beach is quieter and less crowded. It's not suitable for swimming, as the shoreline is dotted with an array of small and large rocks, and there's only a narrow strip of sand. But its rugged beauty makes it a perfect spot for taking photographs or simply soaking in the serene views.
I parked the car and stepped out, taking a deep breath of the salty sea air. The waves crashed gently against the rocks, creating a soothing rhythm that seemed to wash away the stress of the past rainy days. The sea stretched out before me, a vast expanse of blue and green that sparkled under the emerging sun.
As I stood there, admiring the beauty of the sea, I noticed a few tourists scattered along the beach, capturing the picturesque scenery with their cameras. I could already see stalls setting up along the edge of the beach, preparing for the evening rush of visitors eager to sample the famous Thai street food. Kalim Beach may not be ideal for a swim, but it comes alive in the evenings with the vibrant energy of food vendors and hungry tourists.
Reluctantly, I tore myself away from the mesmerizing view and got back into the car. The brief stop had been a refreshing pause in my day, a reminder of the simple pleasures that could be found even on a rainy day. With a renewed sense of calm and a promise to return soon, I continued my journey to pick up my son, feeling grateful for the unexpected beauty I had encountered on my way.
