There are two things that always manage to save my day: es teler and chocolate mochi. One is cold and refreshing, the other is chewy and sweet. It may sound like a strange combination, but for me, both are two inseparable elements of happiness.
I still remember the first time I knew es teler. At that time I was still a child, sitting in a simple stall with my mother after a tiring trip. When a bowl of es teler arrived at the table, I was immediately captivated. The color of avocado, young coconut, and the fragrance of jackfruit combined with shaved ice that sparkled like crystals, all swimming in coconut milk and condensed milk that were tempting and absolutely delicious.
On the other hand, chocolate mochi comes with its own charm. Its tiny shape and simple appearance with a sprinkling of fine flour seem to have no appeal. However, once you bite into it... you will know its deliciousness! The melted chocolate filling flows in your mouth, the taste melts perfectly.
I always think of mochi as a small philosophy in life. Sometimes something seems ordinary from the outside, but if we dare to try, we can find hidden beauty.
And here's the best part: when these two favorites of mine come together in one experience. A bite of cold es teler, followed by a bite of soft chocolate mochi. The sensations are opposite but complementary like the sunset after the rain, or the laughter that emerges between tears.
Sometimes I think, if only life could be this simple. If everyone could sit together, share a portion of es teler and some chocolate mochi, maybe the world would be a more peaceful place. No unnecessary fights, no lingering confusion. Just small moments that make us smile, and isn't that the most precious thing? Ah!
