Making Nigerian Yam pepper soup.

in Foodies Bee Hive2 months ago

Welcome to my blog; today, we are making Nigerian Yam pepper soup.

Yam pepper soup is mostly the dish made for a puerpera (a woman who has just given birth) in the Eastern part of Nigeria called the Igbos, this pepper soup is garnished with so many herbs and spices that will make it medicinal and helps the mother heal faster and become stronger, additionally dry fish of all types can be used to prepare this delicious meal.

Personally, I love making this pepper soup when I am not feeling well because it is not healthy, even tho I don't add all the needed herbs and spices. After all, I am not a puerpera.

Join me let's check out the ingredients, and let's also cook Yam pepper soup in my small kitchen.

Ingredients

  • Half tuber of yam cut into 10 cubes
  • 10 leaf of scent leaf
  • 150g of dry bonga fish
  • 50g of stockfish
  • 50g of prawn
  • 1 cube of Maggi
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper soup spice.

Let's cook

I started by washing my pot very well because I don't like it when I have any taste of sand in my food.

Secondly, I pilled the yam and sliced it into cubes of my choice.

After pilling the yam I transferred it into a spacious bowl where I could wash it very well, then put it inside the washed pot that I will be using to cook.

I added three cups of water and allowed it to boil for 5 minutes, while it was boiling, I decided to remove the fish from it shells and also removed the bones to avoid hurting me when I enjoyed my meal.

After deboning the fish, I washed it with the stock fish and added it to the cooking yam.

I allowed it to cook for 20 minutes, this will help the fish to cook and bring out its taste which will make the pepper soup delicious.

While I was waiting, I decided to slice the scent leaf that I would be adding to the pepper soup tho. That would be the last thing to add.

I checked the yam it's gradually cooking to the extent that I Iove I like my yam to be very soft
So I added salt and pepper soup spice, maggi and pepper.

I brought out my local grander for the prawn, I washed the prawn and pounded it till it was smooth

Then I added the prawn and the salt for taste, after 4 minutes I added the washed scent leave sliced and then covered it just for 5 minutes and food it ready.

Making this food is very simple and affordable, even if you don't have money to buy fish, with 10g of crayfish and the spices the pepper soup will also taste so well.

I enjoyed the meal after which I took my medication and had some rest for sometime.

Thanks for joining me in cooking this sweet African pepper soup.
