10 Yards: Canberra, AUSTRALIA

This place was a strange find... my wife and I had a night out without the kids, they had gone to the coast with her parents, and so we were just looking for a nice place to have a dinner... nothing too fancy this time.

I found this place had great reviews... and it was nearby, and it served fresh local produce grown in the onsite gardens... and had a huge variety of local brews on tap. So, I looked up the address.. and it was a place that my wife and I knew well!

It turns at that the daytime cafe/restaurant Two before Ten turns into a little gastro-pub in the evening! WOW! And changes its name to 10Yards!

The Menu

So, some really interesting specials on offer... and really good weekly regular meals as well! For 25 dollars, a meal and a beer is pretty damn good value... and if the meals are as good as the regular cafe fresh from the garden meals... well, this is going to be a superb find!

And the regular main menu looked awesome as well... I think that we will be revisiting often to try out the various things on offer!

... hmmmm... and the desserts as well! Small selection, but really quite decent looking! Plus... there were a nice selection of after dinner drinks... although, quite a few of them, we already have on our shelves at home!

The Food

... okay, first the drinks. A nutty and rich red ale for me... and a cider for my wife. Both local brews as well... and quite delicious and refreshing, from the tap... and there were quite a few more to try!

There was a bit of humming and hawing from my wife as to what she would order... vegetarian or not... but in the end she settled for the lamb ragout... and this was a superb choice. The food was honest... not like other restaurants, where you feel like the food is over presented or overly salty/oily for taste... but this is more like getting a good home cooked meal!

I got the BBQ black bean pork neck with noodles... and this was quite something else! The pork was under all the noodles... but each slice was a soft and tender piece of goodness!

A honey whisky to finish up the drinking part... and this was very much like Drambuie, but again, a local one... so, I might start looking out for this!

And a nice Panna Cotta to finish up the eating part! I was curious about the Miso Tart... but that had sold out already.

The Experience

Oh wow... this was a great find! It wasn't busy at all when we were there on a Saturday... there were people, but it wasn't packed and we could just walk in and start eating straight away.

Friendly staff, and really great food made from the garden produce... in a sort of great home cooked way, and with some top wines/beers/spirits... what more could you ask for...

... well, and the prices were decent as well! So, the best of everything! This is going to be a regular haunt from now!

Too bad you couldn't eat the miso cake, I hope next time you can enjoy it, the good thing is that you have taken an excellent gastronomic experience with you.

Yes, I will definitely be revisiting so that I can try out that dessert that I missed out on!

Seems wonderful actually.

The food just from the pictures already leave my belly rumbling 😂😂

Been a while since I ate out...

Yeah, we don't tend to eat out too often... it gets harder when it is with kids. But ours are starting to grow up, so we can start going to more adult places now!

Congratulations @bengy! Your post brought a smile to the TravelFeed team so we have sent you a smiley. Keep up the good job. 🙂

Oh wow, the restaurant transforms from cafe to pub; that's a good marketing concept heheh... In this way, they can cater to more customers. They offer a wide selection of food and drinks too. Your review on the food and service makes me think that you were satisfied and happy to discover the place. The reviews you read before were indeed accurate. More visits to come to this cafe or pub!
