Fox and Bow: Canberra, AUSTRALIA

My wife and I do a postering run around when we have our ensemble concerts coming up... in the early days, we would do it separately, but we did find in the end that it was actually quicker and more fun to do the bulk of it together. Sure, there are still some places that we do alone, because those are areas that we often visit for our individual work...

... and as part of that run around together, we've taken to stopping off to try out different places for coffee and lunches.

This time, it was the turn of Fox and Bow in the very upscale and posh suburb of Red Hill in Canberra!

The Space

Despite the fact that the outdoor weather looked okay, it was deceptively chilly... and so, we chose to eat indoors in the warmth. But, if you chose outdoors, you would have blankets with your seats as well, so that would still be a good option!

But the indoors, nice and airy with the large window... comfortably warm without being too opressive... and not loud either. A perfect fit for us!

The Food

I chose toasted rotis with a massaman lamb filling... and scalloped potatoes. The potatoes were a bit ordinary... they could have been thinner and crispier... but the lamb roti? WOW WOW WOW! I think I'll be trying to do something similar for this at home! Even if it is just with regular bread toasties! Filling with a massaman curry was such a great match!

My wife opted for an interesting pumpkin soup with some additional ravioli dumplings in it... again, a superb dish that was perfect for the chilly Canberra day!

... and the coffee! Top! Not too milky... which is something that tends to be the case in Australia.

The Experience

Perfect atmosphere indoors, and it would have been pretty nice outdoors as well... amazingly good food and coffee, and really nice staff as well. Turn around from ordering to eating was fast... and it will be hard to skip this place on our next postering round! This might be our go-to rest stop!

That pumpkin soup reminds me of a chili that my wife makes using white beans and ground chicken. It all looks very delicious. I love scalloped potatoes, so it is too bad that these weren't up to par!

That looks awesome. I love finding a cool spot for lunch.
