Last month, @yugadi , @alstonsjournal his partner and I found ourselves at Mexarosa, a Mexican restaurant in Hyderabad that had been on our radar for a while. The menu looked promising, and we dived right in, trying a bit of everything. Some dishes blew us away, some were just good, and one left us scratching our heads. Here’s the full breakdown of what we ate and how it all went down.
Mojo Pork Carnitas - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)
Mojo Pork Carnitas - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)
This was hands down the best dish of the night. The pork was insanely juicy, cooked to perfection, and packed with flavor. It had that perfect balance of smokiness and spice, making it impossible to stop eating. In fact, we loved it so much that we ordered it twice 🫣, which should tell you everything you need to know. If you visit Mexarosa, this is a must order.
Paneer El Pastor - Rs 525 ($ 6.05)
Paneer El Pastor - Rs 525 ($ 6.05)
Yugadi picked this one, and honestly, it was a great choice! The paneer was incredibly fresh, soft, and packed with flavors that made every bite a delight. But if you ask me whether it tasted Mexican ? well, that’s up for debate. The flavors leaned heavily towards Indian spices, making it feel more like a fusion dish rather than something straight out of a taqueria. That said, it was delicious, and we had zero complaints.
Lamb Birria - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)
Lamb Birria - Rs 595 ($ 6.86)
Another absolute winner. The lamb was incredibly tender and soaked in deep, rich flavors that made every bite a treat. We literally finished this in under five minutes ! no exaggeration. The chefs at Mexarosa clearly know what they’re doing because this dish was executed flawlessly. If you’re a fan of birria, you’re going to love this.
Enchiladas Chipotle Chicken - Rs 625 ($ 7.20)
Enchiladas Chipotle Chicken - Rs 625 ($ 7.20)
This one was a heavy hitter. Rich, bold, and full of smoky chipotle flavors, the enchiladas weren’t just tasty, they packed a serious punch. If you’re someone who enjoys intense flavors and a good dose of spice, this one’s right up your alley. Just be prepared it’s on the heavier side, so don’t expect something light and fresh.
Mexarosa Chicken Bites - Rs 545 ($ 6.28)
Mexarosa Chicken Bites - Rs 545 ($ 6.28)
If you’re into fiery, spicy food, these chicken bites will hit the spot. They were hot like, properly spicy but they were also incredibly tasty. Every bite had this addictive crunch, and the heat just built up with each one. If you love a good kick, go for it. Just be ready for the burn! 😂🤌🏼
El Tesoro - Rs 895 ($ 10.31)
El Tesoro - Rs 895 ($ 10.31)
Mexarosa’s cocktail menu looked insanely spectacular , so we figured we had to try at least one. We went with El Tesoro, and at first, it was nice smooth, balanced, and pretty enjoyable. But after a while, it started to taste a bit like Benadryl, which was weird. Maybe it was just our taste buds playing tricks on us, but it wasn’t something we’d order again for sure.
Churros Rs 395 ($ 4.55)
Churros Rs 395 ($ 4.55)
Now, this was the only real disappointment of the night. After such an incredible lineup of savory dishes, we had high hopes for dessert, but the churros just didn’t hit the mark. They were pretty average, nothing special, and definitely not something we’d go back for. If you’re looking for a sweet ending, you might want to skip this and stick to the mains. This was so bad that I didn’t even bother to take a picture of it 😕
Mexarosa absolutely nailed the savory dishes, especially the pork carnitas and lamb birria. The flavours were bold, the ingredients fresh, and the execution top notch. While not every dish screamed “Mexican” in the traditional sense, the food was still pretty damn good. The churros were a letdown, and the cocktail was hit or miss, but overall, it was a fantastic meal. Would I go here again ? HECK YEAH I WILL ! If you’re in Hyderabad and craving some seriously good food, Mexarosa is definitely worth a visit.
