I didn't really get into seafood until after I met my wife. Prior to that, the extent of my experience with seafood was breaded shrimp, shrimp scampi, and occasionally cajun-style crab alfredo from Red Lobster. It was a very sheltered life, ignorant to the amazing seafood dishes that were out there.
One such dish was a simple seafood alfredo made by a local restaurant called Fresh Off The Hook.
For Valentine's Day, they were offering some unique specials. The one that particularly caught our eye was a dessert called Baked Alaska. Neither of us had tried it before and were curious, so we planned a dinner for Friday.
We each ordered the clam chowder. It didn't disappoint. It was thick and chunky, and you got a good serving of clams in it, instead of it being predominantly potatoes.
My wife ordered the scallops. I forgot to snap a picture of them, but they were delicious. They were perfectly seared on top in a wine glaze, practically melted in your mouth and were plated with a delicious corn chowder to tame some of the saltiness.
I ordered the seafod alfredo, which contains Tiger and bay shrimp, and bay scallops. I ordered mine without vegetables in it because I'm odd like that, but it normally comes with zuccini, mushrooms, scallions and tomatoes. (Source)
Everything is sauteed in white wine and garlic butter, mixed in with their Parmesan garlic sauce, rotini pasta and shredded Parmesan cheese is added on top. It's just the right amount of sauce for it. I ended up taking over half of it home because of the clam chowder.
To our dismay, we were told they had run out of Baked Alaska earlier in the day at lunch. Sadly, we'll have to look for another opportunity to try it in the future. Still, it's a great place to eat and I'll have to try something else on their menu the next time I go. With any luck, maybe they'll have Baked Alaska again and I'll be able to try it.
