Mothers Day is on the 11th of May and after my Easter fiasco, I must say I'm a bit nervous. That being said, I have planned mothers day far better and have been working behind the scenes!
Mother's day is also a far more emotional day. For me, my mom is in the UK and she's aging. I'm worried and scared. And then a lot of people don't have contact with, or have lost their mothers. Mother's day is a celebration of Motherhood though and you could definitely celebrate yourself and your close friends who are mothers themselves.

This time I've done all my costing and even created a price list! Luckily, I have plenty of photos of my infamous and absolutely hands down, the best carrot cake** in the world **(Thanks Di โค๏ธ),

but I need to post pictures of final products by tomorrow, all wrapped with ribbon and filled with coloured tissue paper and of course, decorated!
This time around, I am trying out fondant for the very first time and have bought gel colours (which i needed anyway because it's the only way you can get true red. Regular food colouring looks red in the bottle, but only gives you pink, no matter how much you add!๐๐).
It's been a very exciting week as my brand new oven was delivered. Donated to me by family that prefer to stay annonymous, this gft is unexplicably awesome.
Aside from baking with one hand tied behind my back, essentially, using only the mini kitchen for baking that could only fit one tray of cupcakes or one layer of cake at a time. It was massively time consming.
Aside from baking, I haven't been able to make proper roasts of any kind, pies or lasagne which I really miss. You can only stick a small dish in the mini kitchen and that's not big enough for a family of five.
So I am super excited!
We have rearranged the kitchen completely to fit all of my baking goodies. After I went shopping yesterday at CAB Foods for the 1st time though, I realized I definitely need another cupboard! I bought sprinkles and fondant/ icing stamps, cake and cupcake boxes, cocoa, chocolate, nuts, cinnamon , castor sugar, brown sugar, icing sugar and an enormous bag of flour!
I also bought cream to mix with my chocolate to make ganache for my very 1st order! And an Edible print, which looks amazing! I cant wait to put it all together. I almost freaked out as I realized my cake tins are actually 25cm and not 28 cm which meant the chocolate cake would be too small for the print! Even with icing that would have brought it to about 26 cm๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ญIt was going to hang over the edge no matter what I did.
However, and I don't know what triggered the thought to dig it out, I have always had an extra base that is too big for my regular springform tins, so I just tried something out and it fits perfectly into my carrot cake/ Bundt springform tin!! Whoop Whoop! an that, is exactly 28 cm! problem solved!
So yes, I will be making my first custom cake and all my mother's day goodies very close together, but I intend to finish baking, boxing and decorating the mother's day stuff by the end of the weekend.
I'm baking 3 batches of carrot cake and one batch of large heart and star biscuits as I seem to not have enough of those.
The one batch of carrot cake will be a whole Bundt cake,
The second batch will yield my two enormous loaves, which will provide my big, medium and small loaf bundles.
And lastly, the third batch will provide my heart cupcakes!
I need to find a ribbon supplier and get some tissue paper, so I may pop out to The Baking Tin tomorrow.
I am so excited to see how my mother's day bundles/ bouquettes will fit into their boxes and how beautiful they will be!
@zakludick caught these shots of me after shopping, heavily medicated and having given up on knitting while waiting for dinner, passed out cold! I was totally exhausted after that giant shop! And very sore .
Out for the count!
Lol!
But really, I am so excited! I am going to have a nap now and start baking this afternoon!
Wish me luck!
