Hello, friends especially foodies!
2 days after our intimate wedding party, my husband and I went to Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia for a short visit, our first microcation. I had already browsed about a popular Samgyetang restaurant there, the one which also popular in Singapore. A bit information about Samgyetang, is Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup. It is a healthy food which help our immune and stamina. It consists primarily of a whole young chicken or quail filled with garlic, rice, jujube and ginseng.
When we arrived to the restaurant which was located in TRX (Tun Abdul Razak Exchange mall) still with our luggages it was nearly 2 pm local time there and we were in hungry condition. It was not lunch time anymore but there were many customers in the restaurant and the waitress and waiters looked busy.

The name of the restaurant is MODU. And we had to wait a bit to be seated that day.
Unique, the interior there dominated by wood and also rock. Somehow it reminded me of Korean Drama about Joseon period. No wonder, I heard this kind of soup invented in that era.

In the center they had a round table with the chef prepared for the soup in its’ middle. Many people who came there alone sit in this high table.

Here were our surrounding. Quite comfy but a bit too close with other customers since it was so popular that they put many chairs and tables at their dining area.

Here was their menu, so simple and it had no pictures in it.

They had 2gather menu (together menu) with the price of 175 RM that contained appetizer with Korean tea (A teapot), 6 flavours of Samgyetang (pick any of 2), pick one of the shareable dish (Tofu SamHap, Minari Pancake, Potato Pancake, Crispy Chicken Skin Salad) and Traditional Yangkwa dessert.
For the Samgyetang choices, they had 6 flavours of it like the classic one (Hanbang), spicy herbal, beauty collagen, black sesame, perilla seed and black chicken one. Each Samgyetang had they own benefit for health, such as the spicy one could clears and warms the body, the beauty one for glowing skin, black sesame one for energy and heart health, black sesame one for stronger immunity and the last black chicken one to boost energy and stamina.

Still on their menu, they also had Korean handmade noodle (kalguksu) in hanbang, spicy herbal, and perilla seed flavour. They also had shareable dish like corn fries, tofu samhap, minari pancake, potato pancake, crispy chicken skin salad, and chicken gizzard popcorn.
For drinks, they had sunchoke tea, bellflower tea, ginger tea, jujube tea, hanrabong tea, and soft drinks. While for drinking water, they put in in all table and we could have it for free.
Not a long time after ordering, the dish came first. We ordered their favorite POTATO PANCAKE.

Their potato pancake tasted great in light savory flavour. Even it tasted light, they made it so perfect with non greasy texture. The outer skin were crispy but inside were soft. We both loved this dish, what a good choice of dish.
And then, the BLACK CHICKEN SAMGYETANG arrived to our table too. It served completely with glutinous rice (we ordered another 1), salt and pepper, chili sauce, salad and kimchi.

So here was our table, with all of the food we ordered.

Now let me tell you about their ginseng black chicken soup (black chicken samgyetang)

The original flavour of the samgyetang was no flavour at all. So we added the salt and pepper given but we made it light. It consisted of black spring chicken, ginseng root, glutinous rice, leek and jujube. Made for health, it had to stay in its’ no flavour flavour. The chicken tasted soft but already had no flavour too, the benefit of it was from its’ soup broth.

The taste of the salad it came with was fresh and sour with reddish sauce. And kimchi with a bit spicy and sour flavour. Weirdly they didn’t use Chinese cabbage for their kimchi.

The glutinous rice tasted sticky and glutinous. A bit weird for us who are not used to eat this kinda rice.

Well overall we enjoyed eating samgyetang for the first time as it is also good for our health too, and the potato pancake was fantastic. I invite you to try this Korean dish.
