Hello foodies!
If you’re a fan of Korean cuisine like I am, in this post you’re in for a treat! After my last post about “Omma”, Korean restaurant in Zagreb, I’m super excited to share another gem I visited today. And that is Cro.K! A cozy Korean restaurant located near Dolac Market in Zagreb, Croatia. This place is a little slice of Korea right in the heart of Croatia, and it’s absolutely worth a visit! Having something like that really eases the wait for the day I go to South Korea :).
Today I decided to try two dishes that are absolute perfection in the Korean cuisine:
- 제육 쌈 정식 (Spicy Pork Bulgogi) and
- 야채만두 (Fried Dumplings filled with Vegetables)
If you have no idea what I’m talking about I’ll ease it down😆.
- Spicy Pork Bulgogi is a Korean classic! Slices of pork are marinated in a spicy, sweet, and savory sauce, then grilled to perfection. It’s served with a variety of fresh lettuce leaves for wrapping (ssam style - a Korean dining style where you wrap food usually grilled meat like bulgogi in leafy vegetables, such as lettuce, perilla, or sesame leaves. It balances rich, savory flavors with the freshness of the greens and eases down the spicyness. The word "ssam" literally means "wrapped" in Korean. When you eat ssam style, you take a piece of lettuce, add a bit of rice, some meat, kimchi or whatever you want, then wrap it all up into a neat little bundle and put it in your mouth!).
- Fried Dumplings (Yachae Mandu): These crispy, golden dumplings are filled with a mix of finely chopped vegetables. They’re lightly fried, not greasy, and pair perfectly with the dipping sauce provided :).
Of course, no Korean meal is complete without kimchi!!!! I was served the traditional fermented cabbage kimchi, along with a sweeter variation that I couldn’t quite recogniz😭😭😭(if anyone knows what it’s called, PLEASEEE let me know!). The cucumber kimchi was also served. The ✨crunch✨ was everything 😩😩🫶🏻 This is cucumber kimchi!
This is original spicy kimchi!
And this is the yummy sweet kimchi🥹
Interior
The moment you step into Cro.K, you’re transported to Korea. The interior is thoughtfully decorated, with decorations that scream Koreaaa!! Think of colorful things, even K-pop is playing in the background! The restaurant also has seating on the lower level (-1) :).
They have this wall filled with pictures and autographs from famous Korean; from musicians to actors and of course a Croatian football player 🤣. I feel so bad that I forgot to take a closer picture😭😭.
The lovely Korean couple owns the place. They are incredibly sweet and passionate about sharing their culture!
While the prices at Cro.K are a bit on the higher side, the quality and authenticity of the food make it worth. If you’re craving Korean food or just want to try something new, this is the place to go🫶🏻!!
*I made a mistake not including photos of myself the first time I posted so I had a small photo shoot and here they are :)
I look terrible in all of them but oh well, close your eyes 🤣
