Lol, the pottage doesn't look good, but what can you do as that's what lentil looks like. Anyway, as I said at the beginning of my post, the end result counts, meaning the food must taste good, the rest is not important.

In the US at least the south, we eat black-eyed peas for good luck on New Years.

This is new to me but it makes sense because lentil dishes are eaten for the same reason.
