No puedo dejar que termine el año sin contarles la historia de la casita de jengibre. Empezó la tarde del 10 de diciembre de este año, cuando estaba viendo televisión, tomé mi teléfono y al entrar en Instagram y al desplazarme por la pantalla apareció una publicidad de la tienda Daka, en la cual se abría una invitación para participar en la decoración de una casita de jengibre. Se llevaría a cabo el día siguiente, jueves 11 de diciembre.
I can't let the year end without telling you the story of the gingerbread house. It began on the afternoon of December 10 this year, when I was watching television. I picked up my phone and opened Instagram. As I scrolled through the screen, an advertisement appeared for the Daka store, inviting people to participate in decorating a gingerbread house. It would take place the next day, Thursday, December 11.
Sin muchas esperanzas de que me llamaran, llené el formulario, donde solo veinte personas tendrían la oportunidad de participar en esta actividad. Faltando tan poco tiempo para este evento, no creí que tendría una oportunidad, pero de igual forma llené el formulario. La tarde se fue y, como no me avisaron nada durante ese transcurso de tiempo, me olvidé del tema.
Al día siguiente, cerca del mediodía, recibí la confirmación y me emocioné. Me sentí con mucho espíritu navideño y por eso me vestí de acuerdo a mi sentir. Llegué a Daka unos cinco minutos antes de la hora pautada, pues algo que había resaltado mucho en el formulario y en la confirmación de la actividad era que se agradecía ser puntual. Sin embargo, la actividad empezó unos veinte minutos después. ¡Ojalá la gente pudiera entender la importancia de la puntualidad!
Without much hope that they would call me, I filled out the form, where only twenty people would have the opportunity to participate in this activity. With so little time left before the event, I didn't think I would have a chance, but I filled out the form anyway. The afternoon passed, and since I hadn't heard anything during that time, I forgot about it.
The next day, around noon, I received confirmation and was thrilled. I was in the Christmas spirit, so I dressed accordingly. I arrived at Daka about five minutes before the scheduled time, as something that had been emphasized on the form and in the confirmation of the activity was that punctuality was appreciated. However, the activity started about twenty minutes late. I wish people could understand the importance of punctuality!
Mientras esperaba, conversé un poco con alguna de las personas presentes y me divertí viendo la actuación del Grinch; de verdad que fue bastante gracioso. Llegado el momento de decorar la casa de jengibre, pasamos a sentarnos en el lugar dispuesto para esto y frente a mí se encontraba una caja blanca con un lazo rojo; dentro estaban las galletas de jengibre y algunos elementos para decorar; luego nos entregaron el glaseado que serviría de pegamento.
Les cuento que me resultó bastante difícil armar esta casita; hasta el Grinch se acercó a decirme que lo había logrado, aunque mi casa tenía unas fallas de arquitectura (lol). Mientras iba pegando mi casita, ella se iba cayendo, pero lo mejor de todo fue que nunca me rendí y pude llevarla a casa en una pieza.
While I waited, I chatted with some of the people there and enjoyed watching the Grinch's performance; it was really quite funny. When it was time to decorate the gingerbread house, we sat down at the designated spot, and in front of me was a white box with a red bow; inside were gingerbread cookies and some decorations; then they gave us the icing that would serve as glue.
I have to say that I found it quite difficult to put this little house together; even the Grinch came over to tell me that I had done it, even though my house had some architectural flaws (lol). As I was gluing my little house together, it kept falling apart, but the best thing was that I never gave up and was able to take it home in one piece.
La decoración fue bastante abstracta (lol), incluso luego de tenerla lista, me di cuenta de que nunca le coloqué la chimenea; bueno, Santa tendría que entrar por la puerta. Pasé una tarde diferente llena de espíritu navideño y conectada con mi alma lúdica y de niña juguetona; me gustó mucho esta experiencia foodie y sin duda la repetiría; claro está, ya tengo más conocimientos sobre cómo armar y decorar una casita de jengibre sin morir en el intento.

The decoration was quite abstract (lol), even after I had finished it, I realized that I had never put the fireplace in; well, Santa would have to come in through the door. I spent a different kind of afternoon filled with Christmas spirit and connected with my playful, childlike soul. I really enjoyed this foodie experience and would definitely do it again. Of course, I now know more about how to assemble and decorate a gingerbread house without dying in the attempt.
