Hello everyone, for some time now I've been seeing two very particular things that I've been wanting to try. To give some background, I can tell you that one of the things I usually eat a lot and share with my grandmother are soups, ramen, noodles, or instant noodles. For a while, when some brands were just arriving in my city and were more visible, I used to always buy certain flavors or brands to try with her, so I was able to figure out some flavors that I like and even how to enhance them, and that's something I enjoy. However, lately this has diminished, but to my surprise, I was recently able to see a brand that included tomato flavor, which caught my attention and, without thinking, I decided to try it.
Hola a todos, desde hace algún tiempo había visto 2 cosas muy particulares, las cuales tenía muchas ganas de probar, y para dar un poco de contexto previo, puedo decirles que una de las cosas que suelo comer mucho y que comparto con mi abuela son las sopas, ramen, fideos o noodles instantáneos, y durante un tiempo, cuando algunas marcas estaban llegando acá a mi ciudad y eran más visibles, solía siempre comprar sabores o marcas para probarlos junto con ella, por lo que pude deducir algunos sabores que me gustan, incluso cómo potenciarlos, y eso es algo que disfruto; sin embargo, en los últimos tiempos ha mermado esto, pero para mi sorpresa, recientemente pude ver una marca que entre sus sabores estaba el de tomate, cosa que me llamó la atención y, sin pensar, decidí probarla.
This instant noodle is from the Bannetti brand, and from what I've seen, they come in flavors: meat, chicken, vegetables, curry, and, this time, the one that caught my eye: tomato. It costs $0.60, making it the cheapest among the various brands here in my city, and you can find them in packaged or cup noodle forms. I must say I had some curious expectations, since I didn't know if the flavor would be too artificial tomato-like or more like sauce.
Este noodle instantáneo es de la marca Bannetti y, hasta donde he visto, hay de sabores: carne, pollo, vegetales, curry y, en esta oportunidad, el que me llamó la atención, que es el de tomate. Su costo es de 0,60$, lo que lo hace el más barato entre las diversas marcas de acá en mi ciudad, y se pueden encontrar en formato noodle en empaque o en vaso. Debo decir que mis expectativas eran curiosas, puesto que no sabía si el sabor sería muy a tomate artificial o algo más a salsa.
Inside the package was the noodle and two packets: one with the tomato-flavored seasoning and one with chili powder, since one characteristic of these is that they all come with a touch of spice. Now, something worth mentioning was that this noodle was somewhat hard, and the preparation instructions say 3 minutes, but in my case, I felt and believe it's better to cook it longer. So, to prepare this one, I placed it in hot water for about 5 minutes, which made the noodle softer, and then I added the packets.
Dentro del empaque contenía el noodle y dos sobres, uno con el condimento con el sabor a tomate y uno con polvo de chili, puesto que una característica de estos es que todos traen para ponerles este toque de picante. Ahora bien, algo a mencionar era que este noodle era algo duro y en las indicaciones de preparación dice 3 minutos, pero en mi caso sentí y creo que es mejor que esté más tiempo, por lo que para preparar este lo coloqué sobre agua caliente unos 5 minutos, lo cual hizo que el noodle estuviera blando para posterior a eso colocar los sobres.
Normally, these are a balanced mix, being spicy but still having the main flavor. This time, when I tried it, it was the complete opposite; it didn't have a tomato or stew flavor at all; it was a somewhat bitter condiment, more like a strong pasta sauce. But as for the spiciness, it was super strong, so much so that it made it hard to fully enjoy the flavor. To corroborate this, my mother tried it and she agreed; even so, we were able to eat them.
Normalmente, estos, en cuanto a sabor, suelen ser una mezcla equitativa, siendo picante, pero sintiéndose el sabor principal. En esta ocasión, al probarlo, fue todo lo contrario; no tenía para nada un sabor a tomate o guiso, era un condimento algo amargo, más como una salsa para pasta fuerte, pero en cuanto al picante, está superfuerte, tanto que hacía que no se pudiera disfrutar bien el sabor, cosa que, para corroborar, mi madre probó y la opinión fue la misma; aun así, pudimos comerlos.
Now, to go with the noodles, I've had my eye on a drink I've been wanting to try for a long time. I regularly drink basic energy drinks with my sister. But I'd heard so much about a specific one that, as soon as I got here, I started looking for where I could buy it. Well, after a few rounds, I managed to get a Rockstar in its basic 355ml can. I got it for $1, which was a bit of a bargain, given the higher price tag.
Ahora bien, para acompañar el noodle, tenía en la mira una bebida que desde hace mucho quería probar, pues con regularidad suelo tomar bebidas energéticas básicas con mi hermana, pero me habían hablado tanto de una en específico que, apenas llego acá, empecé a buscar en dónde podría comprarla y, pues, luego de algunas vueltas, conseguí adquirir una Rockstar en su presentación básica de lata de 355 ml. Esta la conseguí por un costo de 1$, cosa que hasta cierto punto fue una oferta, puesto que estaba más elevada de precio.
I must say that the presentation of the can was very nice, and so far it's one of the largest cans I have in my collection in my room. Now, when I opened it, something I liked was that it had a sweet aroma, but not cloying, and its strong color also caught my attention, since the ones I've had from other brands were bottled and not as clear and only contained caffeine. This one, on the other hand, also contained taurine, and although its default flavor was guarana, it had a touch of red fruits that made me like it and drink it without problems, even though it was a little too fizzy for my taste.
Debo decir que la presentación de la lata se me hizo muy bonita y hasta ahora es de las latas más grandes que tengo en mi colección en mi habitación. Ahora bien, al destaparla, algo que me gustó es que tenía un aroma dulce, pero no empalagoso, y su fuerte color también llamó mi atención, puesto que las que he tomado de otra marca eran de botella y no tan claras y solo contenían cafeína; esta, por su parte, contenía taurina también y, aunque su sabor por defecto era guaraná, tenía un toque a frutos rojos que hizo que me gustara y la tomara sin problemas, aunque estuviera algo muy gaseosa para mi gusto.
The curious thing is that when combined with the noodle, it greatly enhanced the spiciness, so if it was spicy on its own, a bite of it with a sip of the Rockstar was even more of a sting. However, it was somewhat addictive, but I wouldn't combine it again. And I must say that, on its own, the Rockstar is a total 10 in flavor, intensity, and presentation, while I don't find the noodle to have a very good flavor, so I wouldn't buy it again; nevertheless, it was an interesting experience.
Lo curioso es que en combinación con el noodle potenciaba mucho el picante, por lo que si picaba por sí solo, un bocado de este con un sorbo de la Rockstar era picarse aún más. Sin embargo, era algo adictivo, pero que no volvería a combinar. Y pues debo decir que, por separado, la Rockstar es un 10 total en sabor, intensidad y presentación, mientras que el noodle no siento que sea un buen sabor, por lo que no volvería a comprarla; sin embargo, fue una interesante experiencia.
