One thing I can definitely agree with was what Dori said. Expensive doesn't mean tasty. There are plenty of dishes out there that seem to just be for status rather than taste.
Today's dish though didn't seem real. I'll have to ask any Chinese Foodies here if they might know what it might be referencing. Anyway the name in-game was "Trembling Strings and Rushing Reeds" and as it was described it seems to be a mix of three different meats: ham, beef and chicken. Each meat needs to be sliced thinly and then chopped into strands. These then get threaded together into mixed strips and then stir-fried together. The goal is to taste each kind of meat with every bite. Here's what it is supposed to look like:
Because of the skill of the work involved it is a pricey item. I have tried looking for it but I couldn't find what this might be based on.
The original name of this dish in Chinese is 繁弦急管 fanxianjiguan which is actually just a phrase that means
to put it plainly, the pleasant melody of an orchestral piece.
I'm not sure how pleasing it would be to the Persian palate but it was being served to characters from a Persian-based region. From my experience though it could be related to shawarma, a traditionally lamb dish where cuts of the meat are stacked in a rotisserie and after it's cooked you scrape off thin slices of it to serve in a pita. These days you typically make it with chicken though, at least according to the places I've tried. Very very tasty.
On the other hand Faruzan was hoping to try some other dishes and those are based on legit Chinese foods.
You have "Golden Shrimp Balls" based on Braised Shrimp Balls.
Bamboo Shoot Soup is a very popular soup.
And then as it relates to today's theme, she wanted to try "Adeptus Temptation" which comes from Buddha's Temptation a Fujian dish that's very complex, has tons of mixed meats and has a price tag to match!
Typically you can order this for about $33 for a single-serving but some of the more high-end restaurants can go up to $695 a bowl! That might have been enough bang for Faruzan's buck. Of course it also takes about 2-3 days to cook and is seafood-based so that would have been ruled out by Dori's conditions.
Have any of you guys tried any of these dishes?
