Going for the fusion on Penang island

South East Asia has never stopped to seem to amaze me and Malaysia is another round of exactly this. For some reason I had never reached Malaysia before even though it is centrally located and the country is super beautiful and most of all.... the people are extremely friendly!!

No Hivefest for me which was a while earlier but still, why not also visit Malaysia to find out what is happening over there. One of the things I was also very curious about was Malay cuisine and especially all of the fusion dishes that there are to find. Because Malay food has been influenced by so many cuisines that it became cuisine on itself.

While looking for a version of clamps in the city of George Town which is known to be a foodie hangout, I stumbled over this Malay-Italian style restaurant called Heap Seng at 29 which only has a facebook page and no website but just looked super interesting!

They call themselves an oyster bar, but the reality was that they had a lot more to choose from and honestly... I don’t even like oysters...

Smokinnnnnnnn

Having the choice in different sizes and different toppings on there with either the classics with lemon juice and tabasco or going for some sweet chili on there it gives a totally different vibe. Okay, maybe I would like them in this kind of way

So..what else?

The main reason of finding this place was as I said to eat some clamps. And boy those didn’t disappoint at all! I mean getting the fusion between Asian spices but also still a garlic but thicker kind of gravy. That was a whole new experience.

I really like the messing around with your food kind of vibe when it takes time to eat it all. As in...that you need to make some effort for instance to get all of the clamps out the shells. Fun!!

One by one...

As we were eating at the bar because that is my favorite spit to hang out, it always feels like you can have a peek in the kitchen to see what is going on. Well that wasn’t the case here, food was prepared in a different area and I couldnt see what was happening, even though I just love to peek (from learning how to cook perspective that is honestly.

Then the next fusion dish were these fish tacos which were also really the bomb. A decent chunk of snapper was in there and the toppings again were all just one big fun thing as it brought a bit of Malay vibes but also a bit of Mexican vibes in there.

Yummm taco yummmmm

And again, eating and messing around with the food. These tacos were way too big to have in one piece anyways!!

More from the sea

If I would have the choice, I would never eat a main course anywhere because the appetizers are often so much more interesting and dynamic and frankly...you just want to taste a lot of different stuff.

Or at least I do, I don’t know about you in this one haha.

Scallops are always the winner

So again an appetizers having scallops in two different types of sauces. The red one was a bit like salsa sauce and the green was was more like an avocado green pea kind of sauce which was super interesting to mix and blend with the scallops.

Everything in this place was just very interesting in what the ideas about these dishes were.

I just already know that in terms of food my time in Penang was way too short. But yeah the end of rainy season makes you make some different type of choices on where you want to be heading.

If there wasn't a cyclone in the near vicinity pouring down and changing the weather, perhaps I would have tried way more food over there because honestly.... I really like the Penang vibe!!

Wow, what a delicious menu! I especially love seafood—oysters and scallops are my favorites. Those fish tacos look very appetizing. It's definitely going to be a great feast. Best regards.
