Happy Saturday Hivers!
Compared to my younger sibling, he’s really the better cook between the two of us. He definitely takes after our parents, both of them are good in the kitchen. I remember back when they were younger, whenever we had an occasion at home, the two of them would handle all the cooking themselves. They never hired anyone to prepare the food; they would only get someone to help with the washing.
When my younger sibling isn’t home and my mom gets tired, I’m the one who cooks. We really don’t let our mom work too much in the kitchen anymore since she’s already getting older.
Earlier at lunch, my mom and I agreed to cook bam-i. Since it’s very quick to prepare, I cooked it by myself. We usually add Baguio beans whenever we make bam-i, but since we didn’t have any on hand, we only used cabbage and carrots.

I prepared all the ingredients first. Once everything was ready, I started by sautéing the onions and garlic. When they turned golden brown, I added the pork and sautéed it as well.

Since my mom was right beside me while I was cooking, she handled the seasoning because she knows I’m not that good at it. I tend to prefer my food really mild, so I can’t always estimate the flavor they want. My mom kept a close eye on me while I cooked, just to make sure the dish wouldn’t end up tasting bland (lol).

The seasoning turned out just right. That’s really where I struggle, I have a hard time guessing their flavor preferences, which is why I always ask my mom for help. I also don’t want them to eat just a little because the dish doesn’t taste good. In the end, the bam-i was perfectly cooked, and not to brag, but it really did taste delicious.
