Sunday Afternoon High Tea - what a treat!

in Foodies Bee Hive2 days ago

Stepping onto the ferry in Amsterdam for a High Tea experience feels like entering a moving postcard. The gentle hum of the engine blends with the sound of water brushing the hull, while wide windows frame canals, houseboats, and historic gables drifting by. From the moment you are welcomed aboard, there is a calm, unhurried atmosphere that invites you to slow down and savor both the city and the moment.

The table is elegantly set with tiered stands, crisp linens, and delicate porcelain. A pot of freshly brewed tea arrives first, offering classic black blends alongside fragrant herbal options. Soon after, the food follows in thoughtful courses. Savory bites include miniature sandwiches with cucumber, smoked salmon, and soft cheeses, all carefully prepared and easy to enjoy as the ferry glides forward.

The sweet selection is the highlight for many guests. Fluffy scones are served warm, accompanied by clotted cream and fruit preserves. Small pastries, macarons, and slices of cake add color and indulgence, balancing richness with lightness. Each bite feels intentional, never overwhelming, and perfectly suited to the relaxed pace of the cruise. As the ferry moves through Amsterdam’s waterways, the High Tea becomes more than a meal. It is a sensory experience, combining taste, sight, and sound. Cyclists pass along the banks, bridges arch overhead, and the city reveals itself from a peaceful, floating perspective.

By the time the ferry returns, the experience feels complete and restorative. A High Tea on an Amsterdam ferry is not just about food or views alone, but about enjoying tradition in motion, where elegance meets everyday life on the water. It suits visitors and locals alike, offering a refined yet accessible way to celebrate Dutch hospitality while gently drifting past landmarks that feel timeless, intimate, and quietly unforgettable for everyone on board together.

This treat was given to me for my birthday which I will celebrate at the end of the month in Amsterdam. These are memories one can never forget.
