Today, I made one of most famous food in Nigeria: Tom Brown. Tom Brown is a supplementary powdered food prepared to be a pudding with local ingredients . You can actually add the ingredients of your choice. I will be blending 8 local food which consist of natural and healthy ingredients.
Soybean 4cups
Maize 9 cups
Guinea Corn 9 cups
Date Fruit 4½ cups
Tiger Nuts 4½ cups
Millet 9 cups
Dried unripe Plantain
Unsalted peanuts 3 cups
This food is very good for weaning babies and it is very nutritious and also good for everyone. Tom Brown is rich in protein, vitamin and mineral which are needed by the body to reduce chronic diseases.
The process
First, I picked the dirts in the grains, washed them and I air-dried the ingredients and toast them one after the other for 10 minutes each , making sure it doesn't pop up . More attention should be paid on the Date Fruit which tends not to dry easily. Meanwhile, I toast the tigernut, Plantain and dates for just 5minutes.
Note: the unripe plantain was not air-dried on the same day.
I mixed up the ingredients and took it to the mill for dry grinding.
I peeled the groundnut before grinding.
Tom Brown is supposed to be grounded 3 to 4 times to achieve a smooth powdered form of the mixed Ingredients.
In preparing Tom Brown, you will put on your stove on low heat, put water in a plate and pour your Tom Brown powder and stir till the Tom Brown is mixed evenly, thick and smooth.
The result of this Tom Brown recipe is so Amazing. After the grinding, I got about 7kg of Tom Brown.
You can enjoy it with Milk🥛 and sugar like my kids, but I prefer eating it just the way it is.
I packed the ones I'll take to the village for my mother, and the rest I stored for after use. I also gave some to my younger sister.
