Reminds me of a local dessert we call "kalte" here in Bacnotan, La Union that used to be popular when I was a kid. Of which old folks will collect peels from pomelo as well as sweet potatoes and the interior part of a young breadfruit and bring them to a sugarcane processing area to be coated by sugarcane extracts that is being heated into a large carabao driven furnace. Nowadays this method of processing sugarcane has become obsolete.
