As a good Venezuelan, I never tire of cooking or eating empanadas. my favorite filling is always shredded beef, and no matter where I am in the city or the country, it's always one of my first choices for breakfast. What a blessing for the palate! Whoever came up with the idea of combining corn flour with different fillings, shaping them into half-moons, and frying them to create this divine food.
A little background on this day: Ricardo and I were returning from a trip from Coro, in Falcón state, to Maracaibo, in Zulia state, which is a journey of approximately 5 hours, and we needed breakfast. We stopped along the way, and I don't know the exact name of the area, but I do know the name of the small restaurant: "El Sabor Gourmet de Johana." And guess what? The breakfast option was empanadas.
The place was small with dim lighting but quite cozy, not to mention the air conditioning, which was on full blast. It had tables and comfortable wooden chairs. We were the only ones eating inside, as they had another area that opened onto a highway, but they kindly offered us a more comfortable place to sit and eat.
They served us the empanadas quickly, and of course we ordered the meat ones. There was also a little tartar sauce to go with them. I don't remember exactly if we had soda or malt, but we only ordered one for the two of us because we didn't want to drink so much soda.
I took a bite of the empanada, followed by a little sauce and more bites until I finished it all. It was delicious, with a crispy crust on the outside and soft on the inside, although it didn't have as much filling as I expected. A couple of empanadas were enough to fill me up and satisfy me so that I could arrive in Maracaibo feeling calm.

Feliz y delicioso miércoles para todos queridos amigos y comidistas del mundo.
Como buena Venezolana que soy, nunca me canso de cocinar o comer empanadas, mi relleno favorito por siempre es el de carne desmechada y es que sin importar en que zona de la ciudad o del país me encuentre siempre es una de mis primeras opciones para desayunar, que bendición para el paladar a quién se le ocurrió combinar la harina de maíz con distintos rellenos, darles forma de media luna y llevarlas a freír para crear esta divina comida.
Un poquito de contexto de este día, Ricardo y yo, regresábamos de un viaje de Coro, en el estado Falcón a Maracaibo, estado Zulia, que es un trayecto de aproximadamente 5 horas y necesitábamos desayunar, nos detuvimos en toda la vía y con exactitud no se el nombre de la zona, pero del pequeño restaurante si, se llamaba: "El Sabor Gourmet de Johana", y ¿Adivinen? La opción de desayuno eran empanadas.
El sitio era pequeño con poca luz pero bastante acogedor ni hablar del aire acondicionado que estaba en su máxima potencia, tenía mesas y cómodas sillas de madera, éramos los únicos comiendo en el interior, ya que tenían otra área que daba por completo a una carretera, pero muy amablemente nos ofrecieron comer sentados y más cómodos.
Nos sirvieron las empanadas rápidamente y porsupuesto las pedimos de carne, también había un poco de salsa tártara para acompañar, no recuerdo con exactitud si tomamos refresco o malta, lo cierto es que pedimos una sola para los dos porque no queríamos tomar tanta gaseosa.
Le di un mordisco a la empanada, seguido de un poco de salsa y más mordiscos hasta terminarla toda, estaba deliciosa además de una masa crujiente por fuera y suave por dentro, aunque no tenía la cantidad de relleno que esperaba, un par de empanadas fueron suficientes para llenarme y quedar satisfecha para así poder llegar a Maracaibo tranquila.
