Bockwurst with cabbage and beans
Hello everyone, how was the new year? I will soon post something about my dinner away from home but in the meantime I will refresh your taste buds with a delicious recipe, all German inspired. I don't know if you know that I am very passionate about German culture, I have been to Germany several times and this year I finally signed up for a German course and as you know another passion of mine is cooking and therefore when I find German products I try to buy them immediately, they are not easy to find but sometimes Lidl has weeks dedicated to German dishes.
This week I found this particular and for me unusual type of frankfurter, very large, so you can't find any in Italy and I decided to cook it accompanied by a side dish of cabbage without making the classic German sauerkraut!
For the ingredients you will need:
- 300 grams of white cabbage
- 6 bockwursts
- 3 tablespoons of fine salt
- 4 tablespoons of oil
- 200 grams of green beans
First you need to clean the cabbage under the water than cut off the main leaves if they are ugly or broken, cut the cabbage in the middle and now cut it in very tiny slices. Than clean the beans if you want you can use canned beans , it's faster and useful.
Then prepare two pots, one to boil the sausages and one the cabbage and beans, prepare the one with the cabbage first and add the salt, as soon as the water boils add the cabbage and boil it for about ten minutes than add the beans and cook all for other ten minutes, in the meantime dedicate yourself to the sausages, rinse those too and then put them to boil for about eight/ten minutes, mix the cabbage carefully.
Then drain both the pots and serve everything sprinkled with a light drizzle of oil, my recipe was very simple but I'm curious if there are any Germans or lovers of German cuisine among you to know other ways to cook cabbage or frankfurters!
