I actually made these cat’s tongue cookies last year, but the recipe was very different from this one. The previous recipe had quite a few flaws—not that it didn’t work—but the cookies weren’t dense or crispy enough. When baked, the dough spread out too much. That’s why I looked for another recipe, and this one is a tried-and-true recipe from my neighbor. Every Eid, she sells these cookies, and the results are amazing—they’re perfectly shaped and have the right texture.

Cat’s tongue cookies are one of the most popular cookies in Indonesia. These cookies are typically served during Eid as a treat in jars on the guest table to welcome visitors when Eid arrives. Well, this recipe will become my go-to cookie recipe, especially since my niece loves them so much.

Curious about the step-by-step preparation? Let’s take a look below!

Ingredients

2 egg whites
1 egg yolk
250 grams butter
100 grams coconut flakes
200 grams powdered sugar
250 grams butter
Vanilla

Instructions

Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then set aside.

Combine the powdered sugar and margarine, then mix. Add the egg yolks and mix again until the mixture turns pale.

Result

Ta-da!!! Just looking at the result is so adorable—I absolutely love the beautiful combination of the coconut flakes, and there’s a subtle chocolate touch in the cookie dough. Everything turned out so beautifully; I’m extremely satisfied with the result—everything is just perfect.

The flavor combination speaks for itself—there’s an unusual sweet, crispy texture to the cookies, in my opinion, and the simple touch of chocolate makes this dish extraordinary. I’ve successfully made this dish incredibly delicious; the difference in texture and flavor compared to the previous recipe is night and day. And most importantly, the preparation steps are vastly different, especially during ingredient prep and the process of beating the egg whites at the beginning.

Cat tongues!!! My grandmother always made these cookies when I was a child was so popular in my country, noo now I'm craving for them ❤️🤩😍 you bring me back to such good memories thank you.

I’m so happy to hear that your grandmother also used to make this cake—it’s the texture that makes me miss it so much.

Mom used to do something similar, but they would be shorter and called Bear's Paw on this part of the globe, haha. The world feels so small!

Wow, it turns out the name is really unique over there. But this cake really is that delicious—I also love the chocolate version.

delicious and yummy

Thank you very much
