Tekwan Sago, is what this viral dish is called on tiktok social media. I often see many types of posts with the same recipe every time I visit there. As a result of my curiosity, I intend to make it.
Now the ingredients used are very premium, starting from the selection of flour, the type of soup ingredients, which involve various types of mushrooms and also shrimp. Now this sago tekwan itself is a food originating from Palembang, called sago because it is indeed made from processed sago flour or what we often know as tapioca flour.

Tekwan Ingredients
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon mushroom broth
To taste Hot water
Procedure for making Tekwan
- Combine all ingredients except the water you mix little by little while stirring.
- Now if it can be shaped, I take a piece then boil it in boiling water.
- Well if it floats lift tekwan then drain in a bowl.
After preparing the tekwan, I immediately prepared the sauce ingredients needed. Well usually in this soup there are special spices that come from Palembang, the city where this dish comes from. But because here there is absolutely no such material, let's use and make the spices ourselves.
Tekwan Gravy Ingredients
50 grams of shiratake mushrooms
50 grams of ear mushrooms
100 grams of enoki mushrooms
1 stalk of spring onion
2 stalks of celery leaves
2 shallot cloves
1 hazelnut
1 cm cinnamon
3 star anise segments
2 cloves
¼ teaspoon coriander
Making Procedure
- Candlenut, star anise flower, coriander, cinnamon, and also cloves I roasted until brownish yellow. Then I knead until smooth manually, or it can also be in a blender.
- Well in the blender do not forget to add garlic and shallots back.
- Then sauté with a little oil fry the seasoning until it is perfectly cooked, add shrimp and sauté again.
- Add water then cook until the sauce boils, then season with salt and also mushroom broth.
- Next I prepare all the mushrooms I cut into small pieces and adjust them and then wash them thoroughly.
- Add the mushroom pieces then cook again, also add celery.
- Finally add tekwan and cook for a minute, don't forget to correct the flavor.
Result
Serve tekwan sago in a serving bowl, then you can add vermicelli or noodles can also be enjoyed directly. Now for the mushrooms you can adjust to your liking. In the original recipe they use simeji mushrooms, because here it is very difficult to find in my village, as a result I used enoki mushrooms.

The taste of spices in the soup is so strong, and it is my favorite, it's great that tekwan can be enjoyed in this way. However, I was a little disappointed that the tekwan was not chewy like chicken or fish tekwan, this sago tekwan was more soft and chewy. I think it is more perfect if enjoyed with the addition of chicken it is even more delicious. As for the gravy, it was already perfect and I will repeat this recipe and maybe change the tekwan recipe a bit by adding chicken, fish or prawns.
