Wishing all my dear friends a very good day! How are you all doing today?
Today, I’m delighted to share the joy I feel when preparing a traditional Sri Lankan sweet snack that has been loved for generations. These soft-on-the-inside and lightly crisp-on-the-outside rice flour balls bring back cherished childhood memories and the warm spirit of festive gatherings. Though simple to make, this little treat is rich in comforting flavor. Whether sweetened with jaggery or sugar and enhanced with coconut milk and fennel seeds, these humble rice flour balls are a wonderful example of how modest ingredients can create something truly heartwarming. Let’s take a look at how to prepare this nostalgic snack step by step!
Materials Used.
R ice flour 120g.
fresh milk 500ml.
Sugar 100g.
2 tablespoon A little powdered sugar.
Water 250ml.
The cooking process as follows.
First, let’s start by roasting the rice flour. Place a pan on the stove and add the rice flour to it. Dry roast the flour lightly, stirring continuously until it gives off a slightly nutty aroma. Once done, remove it from the heat and set it aside.
Next, using the same pan, place it back on the stove and add some fresh coconut milk. As the coconut milk begins to heat, gradually add the roasted rice flour to it. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until the water is absorbed and the mixture thickens enough to form soft dough-like balls.
Next, shape the mixture into small balls, as shown in the images below.
Next, place a pan on the stove and add some sugar. Once the sugar dissolves in the water and reaches a bubbling caramel-like consistency, add the prepared small rice flour balls and stir well until they turn golden brown.
Finally, sprinkle with powdered sugar.
These rice flour balls are a perfect treat for tea time or as a light dessert after a meal. Their soft texture and mild sweetness make them equally loved by both children and adults. Try them out and enjoy the familiar taste of home in every bite – a gentle reminder of the simple joys of life. That’s all from me for today. Wishing you a wonderful day!
